Del Negro vs Forman

A controversy is brewing over Noah's lack of playing in overtime.   Del Negro claims Noah was on a 35 minute limit, but Gar Forman disagrees:

The 6-11 center has been on a
steady-rising minutes limit since returning from a three-week stint on
the sideline because of plantar fasciitis of the left foot. The 35
minutes and 51 seconds Noah played against New Jersey is the most he's
seen since his return on Mar. 28.

"He has a 35-minute limit, so I had to get him out of the game," Del Negro said.

But general manager Gar Forman said that Del Negro could have played Noah more.

According
to Forman, who was at the game, player development assistant Lindsey
Hunter, who sits behind the bench, approached him after regulation and
asked if Noah could play additional minutes.

Forman said he
called executive vice president John Paxson (who was home) and was
given clearance for Noah to exceed the limit. Forman also said that
message was relayed to Del Negro on the bench.

Del Negro made his postgame comments before Forman talked and he was unavailable for follow-up comments.

So what's going on here?   Management throwing Del Negro under the bus unfairly?   Del Negro actually not listening to what he was told?   A simple miscommunication?   Possibly Del Negro looking out for Noah's health?

I don't know, but it's interesting to see this news break.  I think we can be fairly certain that Del Negro is gone even if the Bulls should make the playoffs.

  • It doesn't make much sense for VDN not to play Noah unless he had instructions from higher up. What does he care about at this point other than making the playoffs so he looks better for future jobs?

Sounds like they're just starting the PR spin for the firing.

  • Has anyone noticed the just awful body language, and lack of any eye contact by the players with Vinny during much of this recent stretch/last 10-15 games? Whatever repore there was seems to have evaporated.(By the way since I swithced to a new computer I couldn't get on under my old screename/Sammy and also the spell checker on here isn't activating so sorry for the mispells/typos, but I'm not going to use a seperate dictionary to check any unsure spellings).

While I'm really dissapointed that Derrick didn't score more in the Miami game and against Milwaukee, Vinny gets some of the blame for running the same infernal pick and roll even though the lane was clogged with the big shadowing Derrick so he couldn't penetrate. Again I give some blame to Derrick, but I also blame Vinny for not bringing out more bigs/players for isos and double screens etc. basically isoing guys past the three at times if they need to as Miami has done many times for Wade.

As for Noah, of course it was killing the team and us/fans that it was his "bedtime or he had to go inside for dinner", but without that last just outrageous no-call on that arm grabbing for god's sake on Derrick's drive, and it was just so openly blatant, and yet no call. I'm sure I'll get the old defense of the refs as not having agendas and preferences/biases with certain players, but I can not remeber the high profile/team's leading scorer player who has gotten openly fouled as openly as Derrick has, and not gotten the calls.

Again, I am pissed and very disssapointed that Derrick hasn't realized the need and stepped up to fight for his rights/confronts the refs in the agressive manner other scorers feel compelled to do. I really think Rose' play elevates around other good performances/players, and I still think he could be the Tony Parker and then some to a second scoring star. But his lackadaisical demeanor and his often attrocious defense that leads to breakdowns/other guys helping and easy baskets and three point plays is killing this team at times.

And Vinny not stikcing up for Derrick with what is obviously a boycott on Derrick/bias at times with him not gettng obvious calls makes me want to vomit. He will be fired, and deservedly so.

  • I believe something is going on with Hakim Warrick too, ever since Deng has come back he hasn't been seeing the court for whatever reason....

  • GET DEL NEGRO OUT OF HERE!

The Bulls have the WORST (ABSOLUTE WORST) plays coming out of a timeouts and in bound plays. Del Negro fails to make any good in game adjustments as well. His time is UP. 2 Losses to the worst team in the LEAGUE THIS YEAR! And we are trying to bring in Amare or Bosh or Bron or Wade. YYYYYYA Right. GET ME A GOOD COACH....because if we dont, no one will come here. Fire Del Negro as soon as the season is over, so free agents know that we have a new coach.

  • In reply to Csharp:

You are absolutely right. I cringe every time that Del Bimbo calls a timeout to set up an offensive play. He is pathetic and very likely holding back the development of Rose.

We absolutely have to fire Vinny as part of the free agent recruiting process.

In fact, I say don't hire the new coach until after the free agent signing period. Give Lebron his choice of coaches as part of the recruiting process.

  • In reply to Csharp:

The Noah issue was obvious, and to some extent understandable.

My bigger problem with Del Bimbo and has distribution of minutes is his inability to find a way to use his bench to give his starters enough rest so that they have something left in the tank in the fourth quarters.

Playing Dung the marshmellow over 40 minutes every game is assinine. The guy barely has any athleticism to begin with, and is clearly gassed every game by the 4rth quarter. He can't make a shot or a defensive rotation, and becomes totally useless.

Del Bimbo needs to listen to Stacey Kings prodcasts, KYP,KYP.

  • In reply to Csharp:

Alright Bulls fans... if the management is finally coming out and voicing their opinions about VDN'S coaching decisions, that means the writing is on the wall about VDN getting fired and the bulls season coming to an abrupt end tomorrow in Toronto. I mean lets face it, this Bulls team does not deserve to be in the playoffs this year cause of their inconsistent play. Too many excuses for not being prepared for a lot of losses this year. Yes they have had injuries but still you can not use that excuse when it comes to a lot of their losses this season when they absolutely needed to win. They were playing like a D-League team all year and it is absolutely unacceptable. It would have been nice to get the guys more experience in the playoffs but I say end the season in Toronto and begin the process of building this team for next year. Why put this years team through the humiliation of getting beat by a team who has been helped by the league to win LBJ his first championship by giving him an all star team. Even though I really do hope that someone else if it cannot be the Bulls upset and humiliate Cleveland cause the NBA has done everything in there power to help Cleveland win the championship this year. So... I really do hope that all of the Bulls fans can understand why I say the Bulls do not belong in the playoffs. Lets get this season over with and start to bring in the right pieces for next year for us to get back to elite status.

  • Bulls know they are not making it so they are settling him up to take the fall. He deserves to be fired but they want and will lay the bulls woes all on him when clearly JR, John, and Gar are more responsible for this team than Vinny. Horrible decisions. James Johnson at 16 really hurt us. We could have had a real contributer like Marcus Thorton, Chase Budinger etc. I hate drafting on future expectations. Bring me guys like Taj who are ready now.

  • In reply to Newskoolbulls:

I agree on JJ. It's easy to say hey I liked this guy and that guy, but Taj or Marcus Thornton were my picks at 26. I was even saying they should take Thornton at 16. While JJ was my pick at 16, that was based on my guys either dropping out of the draft or realistically knowing they wouldn't be drafted so early like Thornton. I will never pick a guy again I have not seen play in multiple games. Because JJ's attitude to me at the initial press conference he just acted like an A-hole saying "shit" under his breath and muttering that Sam Smith asking a question about following after a guy named Michael, "[That] old dude's crazy." Just not the guy you want on your ballclub. I hate to condemn Johnson, but unless you get a very forceful coach who can turn him around, he's going to be a waste of time.

  • In reply to Newskoolbulls:

Del Negro should be fired right now. Deng and Pargo should sit. Noah should play the whole game. We should find some time for Law, Warrick and Johnson.

  • In reply to evilhoban:

Deng is a better player than Warrick, Law or Johnson...do you want to win or lose?

  • In reply to evilhoban:

    Antoine Wright wont play today.

  • I agree though csh that Vinny is the worst coach in terms f plays coming out of timeouts.

  • The Bulls' losses and problems aren't about minutes. It's a HEART issues.

Sadly, Norm Van Liers words continue to reign true.

Big Jer should FIRE both Vinny Del Dumbo and Gar-bage Forman!!!

  • Jerry should fire himself too for not caring about the Bulls team. By letting us have a guy that never coached at any level in his entire life be the coach of this historic organization is just stupid. Oh and by the way, what exactly did Paxson do before he got the job on being the General Manager of this team???? He did radio didnt he? Does this mean, Stacey King will be our coach next year?

  • CHECK THIS OUT:

This might just be my new favorite video (after a Bulls' loss).

    Nice pair of basketballs...haha.

  • Get me either Byron Scott, Avery Johnson, Van Gundy, Izzo or Coach K....then we can finally turn this thing around.

  • Vinny has the most to lose by not playing Noah. If he makes the playoffs his resume looks a lot better than if he doesn't. I don't see his motivation to lie here. On the other hand the org clearly do have a motivation: they want to make VDN look bad before they fire him.
