A controversy is brewing over Noah's lack of playing in overtime. Del Negro claims Noah was on a 35 minute limit, but Gar Forman disagrees:
The 6-11 center has been on a
steady-rising minutes limit since returning from a three-week stint on
the sideline because of plantar fasciitis of the left foot. The 35
minutes and 51 seconds Noah played against New Jersey is the most he's
seen since his return on Mar. 28.
"He has a 35-minute limit, so I had to get him out of the game," Del Negro said.
But general manager Gar Forman said that Del Negro could have played Noah more.
to Forman, who was at the game, player development assistant Lindsey
Hunter, who sits behind the bench, approached him after regulation and
asked if Noah could play additional minutes.
Forman said he
called executive vice president John Paxson (who was home) and was
given clearance for Noah to exceed the limit. Forman also said that
message was relayed to Del Negro on the bench.
Del Negro made his postgame comments before Forman talked and he was unavailable for follow-up comments.
So what's going on here? Management throwing Del Negro under the bus unfairly? Del Negro actually not listening to what he was told? A simple miscommunication? Possibly Del Negro looking out for Noah's health?
I don't know, but it's interesting to see this news break. I think we can be fairly certain that Del Negro is gone even if the Bulls should make the playoffs.
