If you thought it was ugly before.... Deng out, Gibson questionable

Per KC Johnson:

Luol Deng, Brad Miller and Taj Gibson sat out Wednesday's Bulls practice at the Berto Center.

Deng underwent an MRI exam on his strained right calf Wednesday
morning, which revealed a "Grade 1 or 2" strain, according to coach
Vinny Del Negro. Deng suffered the injury in Tuesday's loss to the
Jazz. He will travel to Florida, where the Bulls play back-to-back
games against the Magic and Heat Thursday and Friday. But Del Negro
said it's unlikely Deng will play in either game.

"I think he's going to be out for a little bit," Del Negro said.

Miller typically gets practice days off to rest but also banged his
thumb in Tuesday's game, although he is expected to play. Gibson's
plantar fasciitis has been acting up and Del Negro said Gibson might
not play.

"I'm having a harder time fighting through it," Gibson said late
Tuesday. "It's been affecting me more lately, so I'm trying to block it
out."

Well Deng being out alone is enough to virtually doom our hopes of winning without a miracle, if you throw Taj onto the list it's going to be really ugly.   At this point, you might as well let him rest, there's no hope to winning the games without Deng and Noah on the road against elite competition anyway.

Better to get everyone healthy for the games we can win then to bang them up even more in the lost causes.  Let's just wish a speedy recovery to all the guys and hope Charlotte flames out as badly as we do.

  • dennis hopper and rodney mccray will get ten day contracts!.....relying on kirk n loul has never worked. pax n gar are just bloody minded

  • In reply to drob:

We're going to sign the bad guy from Speed?!?

  • In reply to drob:

How do you not protect that draft pick...i would of protected it if it was a lottery pick. Deng sucks....the guy is injury prone. Good luck Rose....hopefully you can win a game all by yourself.

  • In reply to Csharp:

Apparently Bulls management is as smart as you are, so they protected it.

  • In reply to Csharp:

Well ya i just found that out...i guess the top 10 pick will be protected lol

  • In reply to Csharp:

I think the guys will sit out against Orlando. But I hardly consider Miami "elite competion". I hope we have everyone back for friday, thats an important game for us and could have serious playoff implications.

  • In reply to Csharp:

Guys, top 10 protected means very little.

The Clippers are the team we would have to be worse than if we were to get that 10th pick and they would have to go on a winning streak like no other to catch us. That isn't happening.

The most likely scenario is that we will get the 11th pick in the lottery. Unless we get another miracle and move up into the top 3.

This top 10 protection is not going to save us. Its time to saddle up and win some games its Playoffs or get screwed.

  • This is why the most/only objectionable part of the Salmons trade was the swapping of the first round picks in the 2010 draft. I could care less about the second round picks, but it is looking very likely that this could turn out to hurt us.

If the Bucks finish 5th, which it looks like they will with Bosh not returning to full health, and the Bulls fall to ninth which seems to be were we are headed with Noah out, then we are swapping the 10th pick for the 18th pick. Heaven forbid we win a lottery pick, one, two or three.

I don't recall but I don't think that there is any level of protection on this swap.

  • In reply to BigWay:

It's top 10 protected. Try to keep up.

  • Won't we end up with the 17th pick anyway? There's no way we finish in front of Milwaukee, so they'll swap the picks no matter what.

    Apart from that:
If the Bulls finish with the 11th worst record in the nba, what would their chances be to win the lottery? I've found a table which says 0.8%. Is this correct?
And do you think the upcoming draft is deep enough, so that the Bulls could pick up a good talent at 17?

  • Man I was so confident after that 7 game road trip where we won 5, since than everything has went down hill. Its so funny how Noah is so important to us. I want him to get an extension this summer, i know many of you will complain saying he is overpaid but we need here in Chicago for years to come to grow with Rose and a few new players. As for Deng figures.

  • well Miami and the Bobcats both won tonight so start the tanking my friends.

  • In reply to Newskoolbulls:

why ? why do people wanna quit so badly like if the teams in front are super? were only 3 games away from fifth .. please answer.. toronto has four tough games and we got miami and memphis to make up .. & p.s even if we tanked.. mil still gets our pick.. we would have to lose every game and hope new york & philly plays great .. even then slots from 9 & back dont change at all.. so why tank again ?

  • In reply to Yunqn:

did you see our schedual? did you see Miamis? We have two games left with the Bobcats who will have a hungry Tyrus Thomas eager to prove bulls mgt wrong.

  • Man, you are really hung up on this "finishing in the 11th spot" thing.
We shall see, sir. We shall see.

  • I THINK THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY TO WIN, IF THE TEAM KEEPS HANGING THERE.. IN THE FINAL QUARTER.. WE MIGHT PUT AN UPSET TO OTHER TEAMS. WE PLAY WHAT WE HAVE.. WE STILL HAVE DROSE.. DENG INJURED OR NOT HE IS JUST NOT AN ALL STAR TYPE. ROSE SHOULD RUN THE TEAM MORE.. AND THIS IS A TEST ON HOW WE MEASURE VINNY AS A GOOD COACH OR AVERAGE.. ALL IN ALL HOPEFULLY WE FINISH STRONG AND GET READY FOR NEXT SEASON..

  • In reply to buneck:

finally some support .. these are suppose to be true bulls fans .. smh lets go bulls .. 6 - 8 seeds are it..

  • In reply to buneck:

why char? i see toronto fallin out if anything..

  • In reply to Yunqn:

Just beat me to it, I think if there is any team we overtake its Toronto. They dont have an easy schedule left, have a bunch of away games, have their 2 best players really banged up and play us in the last week of the season.

  • LETS BE HONEST HERE.. WE DONT NEED OUR GUYS TO GET MORE SERIOUSLY INJURED, IL RATHER NOT PLAY DENG, AND GIBSON, GIVE MORE PLAYING TIME TO JAMES JHONSON.AC LAW, PLAY THE YOUNG PLAYERS WITH DROSE. WERE NOT TRYING TO LOSE SOME GAME HERE WITH THAT KIND OF YOUNG PLAYERS,IS JUST THAT THEY SHOULD PLAY WHAT THEY HAVE.

  • LETS KEEP IT REAL.. OUR GUYS CANT COMPETE WITH THE LIKES OF THE LEBRONS,THE JOE JHONSON,THE D HOWARDS,OR BOSH.IN THE PLAYOFFS, WE HAVE SOME UPS.. AND MORE DOWN. THIS SEASON. MAYBE THE COACH NOT GOOD ENOUGH. OR THE MANAGEMENT DECISION. THE TYRUS VIRUS. YOU NAME IT. ONE THING WE HAVE IS THAT.. WE HAVE DROSE.. AND WE STILL HAVE TIME TO BUILD THE TEAM WITH HIM.

  • I SUGEST THAT.. AS A BULLS FAN.. YOU WATCH MANNY PACQUAIO BEAT CLOTTEY.. HE IS "THE MICHAEL JORDAN OF BOXING"
