Tyrus for Harrington and more info on Bosh

Per rumorpress.net:

If a Tyrus to Rockets deal falls through, the Bulls will likely trade
him to the Knicks for Al Harrington.  This would be a move, again, to
add more scoring punch with the loss of Salmons.  If for some reason
the Knicks change their mind on trading Harrington or if he is packaged
in a Rockets deal, there is a strong chance Tyrus stays for the
remainder of the season.

Lastly, Chris Bosh for Deng and Noah was offered by the Bulls and is
still on the table, however, its the Raptors who are reluctant.  The
Raptors were intrigued by the idea and do fear they will lose Bosh for
nothing this off season, but seem unwilling to make such a huge splash
and are highly attached to their franchise player.  They're reluctant
to make such a drastic change, trade the face of their franchise and
disrupt the chemistry of a playoff team.

Originally, he discussed the Bulls sending Miller, Jerome James, and Tyrus to the Rockets for McGrady.   I can't imagine the Bulls doing that trade unless they'd personally watched McGrady play and knew he was ready for big minutes at a high level of play.   Something I find unlikely.

It would have been far more likely if Brad Miller were released and returned to the Bulls as hypothosized, but if you were Brad Miller and were released why would you return to the Bulls?   If you were the Rockets why would you release Brad Miller?

So he mentions the Knicks trade is on, and the Bulls will land Al Harrington later today.   I like that trade quite a bit for the Bulls.   Harrington gives the Bulls a lot of what they need on offense to replace Salmons who was also an isolation oriented, ball stopping scorer.

The Bosh update makes sense, it seems ludicrous to me that the Bulls would have been holding up such a trade.  It's nice to know [or at least believe] the Bulls made a play at Bosh and stepped up to the table with some good chips.  However, it's not surprising Toronto turned that deal down [or at least is highly likely to] given that they have no need for Deng's huge contract with Hedo just signed.

Noah would be an outstanding fit next to Bargnani though, and the Raptors aren't likely to do better in the summer if they have to do a S&T.

  • I hope if they cannot a big name in a trade or cannot clear enough salary for a 2nd FA, then they keep everyone on the roster for now except for Salmons. This way, we can get one FA(Johnson or Wade) and then try a sign/trade with Bosh/Boozer/Lee/Amare.

  • This is coming out of 1250 sportsradio in Milwaukee.

According to their sources, it is Warrick and Alexander coming to the Bulls for Salmons. Outside of that, there is a possibility that the Bucks will use K.Thomas and L. Ridnour in a trade for Troy Murphy or Al Harrington.

    Stay tuned everyone.

  • Keep an eye on Luke Ridnour.

    http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/64829/20100218/knicks_contact_bucks_on_ridnour/

Let's see if NY settles for Ridnour and K.Thomas in exchange for Al Harrington. They may have to.

Other than that, I don't mind the idea of the Bulls getting Roger Mason Jr, Theo Ratliff and a #1 Pick from the Spurs for Tyrus Thomas.

  • I like Al Harrington, did anyone else see that sick cross over he did on tyrus?!?

As for the Joe Alexander, Warrick Trade, If this goes down James Johnson will be deep down the depth chart....

  • I find it dubious that given that absolutely no one else is reporting the Bosh talks. Admittedly, the talks might just be "we want Bosh" with the reply of "screw you," but you think something this big would be in play with other reporters. I know tech has built up some credibility in the community, but I'm not sure we should take it for granted he's right. If he is, I agree with you that it's a great sign that the Bulls are aiming high and not just sitting back hoping for things to end up right.

I agree that you'd think some other news outlet ESPN, Yahoo, CBS would be reporting if the Bulls were/had made a serious offer(Noah etc.) for Bosh.

Regardless, I will give Pax/Gar some credit. They dumped Gooden and Noc's contracts for two valuable players. However that value, albeit Boston with no Garnett playoff thrill ride, was limited. Salmons was a career 8.5 ppg scorer before that career year he was having/had when the Bulls acquired him. Also, he averaged only a little over one three pointer a game up to that point. John was a classic case of a limited player having a career year. Even with his limited point production in previous years his FG% was at 42% and below all of those first four seasons. So yes getting Miller at his age and Salmons for dead weight expirings was nice, but lets keep it in perspective also. And nice job Gar/Pax drafting Taj. And looking back most everybody was wrong about Joakim. He turned out to be an important and entertaining player.

OK so with all due respect now with the deadline is rapidly approaching, and with Salmons being traded to Milwaukee, are we going to lose something tangible John was providing especially as the season progressed, for Kurt Thomas and Elston's offensive production? If Those guys are simply expirings for Salmns' contract and some throw a body out there insurance for Noah and Taj absence then I think the Bulls energy and chances of looking good to F.A.'s as a playoff team are dimmed significantly. If Thomas/Elston however are a prelude to Tyrus for Harrington then I'm very satisfied with what the Bulls have done if they successfully make that trade/move.

Say what you want about Harrington, but a guy his size who can drive and handle the ball(although that's not been his game especially lately) as Doug mentioned would be an ideal pick and roll partner with Derrick.

If there's one thing I saw during that five game Western Conference victory tour with Derrick's hot streak where he really played at a superstar level in my book, it was that Derrick Rose playing at his highest level can really only be stopped with an extended pick and roll double team. You bring Harrington out there with him as the guy who slips the screen/makes them pay, and it just creates a hell of a lot of opportunities with great spacing to boot.

I hope the Bulls trade Tyrus today for Al Harrington. Even if they do it doesn't guarantee a sparkling run to end the season and playoff success. But it gives a hell of a lot better chance then losing Salmons and replacing his scoring capabilities with essentially nothing.

  • In reply to SamS:

Anyone read K.C. Johnson's story this morning?? If what he's reporting is true the Bulls will at minimum be getting Hakim Warrick instead of old man bodies Kurt Thomas and Elston. But, he reports that while still possibly moving Hinrich's contract to potentially have enough room for two max F.A.'s, the Bulls could still end up with both the athletic Hakim Warrick replacing Tyrus, and Tyrus being moved to N.Y. for Al Harrington.

If the Bulls end up with Harrington period as IMO the playoff big who can thwart teams doubling Derrick and also can threes needless to say I'll be very happy. If they get Warrick And Harrington I'll will say John Paxson and Gar Forman job well F-ing done. Although unloading Hinrich for possibly two max guys with Warrick added would outstanding as well. I hope K.C. is right on this one.

    Alex-

Thank you for the insightful post. Im just wondering what happens if GarPax ends up pulling this off..then what happens with your misdirected rage?

  • In reply to Dmband:

    Dmband,

Please post Paxson's trade and free agents successes??? Or how about posting Pax's long term contract successes!

Thankfully Rose fell out of the sky for the dunce Paxson

Based on Pax's pasts efforts, he has successfulls turned this team into the Laff-A-Bulls.

  • In reply to Alex:

Pax has arguably not missed on any draft picks. Look back to Kirk (Kurt) and he has consistently taken the right guy. The only pick we can question is Tyrus, but he only had that pick because he fleeced NY in the trade that sent away Curry.

Get a clue. Pax has done a great job since he took over.

  • In reply to KenyattaWright:

    Hey Kenyalla,

Hinrich is a role player who belongs on the bench.
Gordon a clutch shooter, left with out anything in return. Deng is average if he is not hurt. Tyrus was a bust and Aldridge is very good!
No-Shot Noah took 2 years to get into shape and after playing half of a season is out because he is fragile. Gibson is good for a rookie and Johnson looks like another Tyrus but dumber!

Based on talent Deng and Hinrich are grossly over paid and over rateds. Thanks to Pax, these two are untradeable!

Before you write, engage your brain!Pax stinks!

I need a clue are you a boy or a girl!

  • In reply to Dmband:

ugh. this tyrus trade would have been ok before the salmons trade. now it just stinks. warrick is also a scoring punch, although not a floor spreader. and according the the sbnation knicks blog harrington is a chemistry problem with the team. i really wish they went for a draft pick instead on this tyrus deal.

  • Does anyone really expect that the trainee Paxson will be a winner in a trade? Pax is clueless, his only plan is a plan to fail.

  • In reply to Alex:

Let's just disregard all those trades he won last deadline, then. You know, the one's that propelled a losing team into the playoffs.

  • In reply to muhammond:

    PJBown,

The Celts did not have Garnett, their best player p for any of those playoff games. In the last game No-Shot Noah, Miller and Tyrus were out scored 42 to 18 in the paint!

The Bulls played hard and could have won! That gave us all false hope. The Bulls thanks Pax are very far away from a championship!

  • In reply to Alex:

    What a nonsense post.

  • Getting Harrington would be a big plus for the Bulls,
he put some moves on the Bulls last night that made the Bull defenders look like they was glued to the floor.

    A Harrington:
    6'9" 250 17.9 PPG @ 0.435%, 5.6 RPG, 250 Pounds.....!
