Salmons to Milwaukee, official full details [includes picks -> Milwaukee]

Per Bulls press release

The
Chicago Bulls traded John Salmons to the Milwaukee Bucks for Joe Alexander and
Hakim Warrick (pronounced Ha-keem).  In addition, Chicago traded the
Bulls' regular second round draft choices in 2011 and 2012.  Also,
Milwaukee has the option in NBA Draft 2010 of switching first round picks with
Chicago, so long as Chicago's first round pick is not a top 10 selection.

So the Bulls give up two second rounders and the option to swap picks.  It's still a deal I would do, but that certainly adds to the cost.

I wonder if the Warrick/Alexander vs Thomas/Elson was related to the picks?

The pick swap probably won't mean much given that the most it's likely to be is four or five slots if the Bulls landed at exactly 11.  Still a deal I'd do, but it does suck some of the warmth out of it.

  • I wouldn't worry about the swap. The Bulls should finish ahead of the Bucks in the standings. Personally, I like this trade. I couldn't be happier to get Hakim Warrick and Joe Alexander for John Salmons. It's a HELL OF ALOT better than settling for Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson.

    Good job Pax!!!

  • Wow two 2nd round picks is a lot more, you're right that sucks, it's nice to have a shot at someone in the 2nd round. But yeah I'd still do it, if we can come out of it with Chris Bosh who cares.

  • 2nd Round picks don't matter all that much. They could always buy a second-rounder, if they see a player they like.

  • JUST FOR KICKS.

Who is to say the Bulls don't trade Jannero Pargo for draft picks?

  • Is the pick swap top 10 protected?

Either way I think we finish ahead of the bucks so the swap won't be a big deal.

  • Pick swap will have any value to milwaukee only if the finish ahead of the Bulls, which is definitely not in the bulls plan and, frankly, not likely to happen. Otherwise, it is simply worth nothing, so its value mostly symbolic.

  • A couple side notes to chew on .... miami not gettin stoudemire now puts us in a touqh position to battle miami for bosh in the summer... but! if people keep thinkin that the bulls trade of salmons whos to say the heat arent the odd team out who made no deal .. and the bucks knock the heat out.. the bulls trades for warrick so the talent level wuddnt drop so far.. it might be the first time i root for bulls& bucks to get in the playoffs .. but now ask yourself .. why would bosh go to that team after not even makin the playoff...

  • Hey Doug (aka The Great One), I love all your podcasts.....by far the best podcaster I have ever heard. Okay enough with the sucking up here is a question for you.

    Are we on schedule?
Year 1 - Good PG but not ROY (Beasely or Oden)
Year 2 - Healthy TJ Ford
Year 3 - 2nd tier PG (behind Paul D. Will Nash)
What do you think Rose's peak is? Top 15 player or maybe even Top 10?

  • TERRORIST ATTACK in TEXAS?

I just turned on the news to see that a plane has flown into a pretty big building in Austin, Texas. They are saying it was deliberate.

    PRAY FOR ALL THOSE INVOLVED!!!

  • Back to sports. It's more pleasant.

  • the second round picks are basically useless, and fungible assets.

The swap in what people are saying will be a deep draft is also likely to be insignificant.

Given Salmons horrendous play this season, I like what Warrick gives us the rest of the way more than what Salmons was giving us. Apparently, Salmons is a better small forward than he is a shooting guard, and he isn't going to contribue to the Bulls as a small forward, unless we go to small ball full time.

This deal is a no brainer.

  • Mr. Happy should be banned from this site for that ridiculous terroist attack comment. Not only are you about 12 hours behind every news story but that kind of dramatic BS in this day and age is really uncalled for.

  • In reply to CN71:

    FU...little baby boy!!!

The only one full of BS on here is you. Don't be such an ASS!!!

  • In reply to CN71:

the main focus is now on basketball ... problem ... u hope our moves makes basketball sense too .. acie law n joe alexander dont even play ... we probably jus added more bench players n gave up two starters for nothing ... warrick cant even start for his own team what makes him better here? i feel a big talent drop off .. i hope joakim comes back fast & plays strong .. the road to superstar is now ... derrick rose can take the all star cape off and become a true superstar with a big push here .. this is what seperates allstars and franchise players .. i know d.rose is great but now its time to be amazing and truely blossom ...

  • In reply to Yunqn:

TT and JFish weren't starting for us anyways, so what does it matter? Gar/Pax did what they set out to do in terms of clearing salary.

  • In reply to joebe:

so your telling me that salmons and tyrus cant start in this league?... look at who we got .. salmons this whole season played outta position and as soon as we got tyrus back we actually won .. tyrus for harrington wuddve secured a playoff spot .. salmons for warrick n jodie meeks .. those shouldve been the deals .. salmons trade was needed..tyrus's no.. we needed talent back to make us look better.. i promise that draft pick equals out to be another bench player .. i promise the bulls get lucky when they dont try .. when they actually do they mess up.. u dont make two cap deals unless they lasted a extra season.. now tyrus and salmons are in places where they can actually succeed .. &we got back not ont POTIENTIAL starter in return ..tyrus probably started more than everybody we got in every deal this season put together -_-

  • In reply to Yunqn:

Here's the thing, Tyrus could very well go and find himself with his new team and become a solid player. The same thing could happen with any of the four guys we got. They're all capable of cracking the rotation now, except maybe Alexander (but he came into the league as a project), and could come out in a new system and get it.

We gave up one older player who's not playing well at all, and another guy who's shown flashes but clearly isn't going to take the next step for us. In return we got 4 guys who have shown flashes and could take that next step for us. It's unlikely that any of them are going to be starters, but we are going to need to sign some filler for next year, and this is like an extended tryout with these guys.

I like it. At the very least we get some added depth for the rest of this year and financial security for next. We could get more.

  • In reply to Yunqn:

Great job by the Bulls...Warrick is a exact clone of Tyrus Thomas just smarter and a better basketball player. I wouldnt be surprised if the Bulls held onto him after this season. I loved Joe Alexander coming out of college but so far he hasnt panned out as planned. If he could here and become like a 3 point specailist for the Bulls, he could stay as well. By the way, he is a heck of a athlete.

Flip Murray can play some ball as well. The guy has had some great games in the NBA, especailly against the Bulls. He has the ability to drop 20 any night. Acie Law was a big time scorer in college, again he is another player that hasnt panned out. Maybe a change of scenery could help him. He has a nice 3 point stroke as well. We wont see the 1st round pick in a while but when we do see it...we are going to be stoked about it. Great Job Bulls. Go after Wade,Bosh.

  • In reply to joebe:

ONE FOR THE ROAD...what could have been?

To Bulls: Rasual Butler and a future pick
To Clippers: Jannero Pargo and James Johnson

That would have brought the Bulls down to a proper 15 man roster and $30 million in salary with no bench players under long-term contracts.

    Oh well, such is life.

  • In reply to joebe:

why would the clippers do that? they really like Butler and thats why they dealt Thorton. Plus they have so many backcourt players so why would they want to add another in Pargo. Mr. Happy I think you should really give James a year or two more before you label him a bust.

  • In reply to joebe:

    A few thoughts..

I've come to the conclusion that we aren't going to get Lebron, and it's somewhat unlikely that we get Wade. But I think we could get Bosh. Joe Johnson isn't the answer, I'm sorry. I like him, and he obviously is a very productive player, but I think he's about to start his decline in the next year or two, and we would STILL lack that inside scoring presence that we've needed for years now.

I wouldn't be so sure that we don't re-sign Warrick if he plays well for us. Who says the Bulls won't deal Deng in the offseason, should they find someone who's willing to take him in? That would create a spot for Warrick, who might fit well next to Bosh. I think a somewhat realistic scenario is to sign Bosh, then work on getting a sharpshooter to slide into Hinrich's starting spot. I think Mike Miller makes sense, and should be fairly affordable..? Maybe I'm crazy.

  • K.C Johnson just said a Pargo trade might have made it through minutes before the deadline was about to end....

  • K.C Johnson just said a Pargo trade might have made it through minutes before the deadline was about to end....

  • hey doug....I literally know nothing about him but wasnt joe alexander the 8th pick in the 08 draft....does he have any upside or is he just a bust?

  • In reply to Fumbles:

.......aside from the fact he was the 8th pick in the draft lol

  • In reply to Fumbles:

    CN71-

Its not entirely innaccurate as most definitions of terrorism include 'a deliberate violent act to perpetuate a ideological view directed at civilians or non-combatants...'

By that defintion, what occured in Texas was in fact an act of terrorism, although that usually doesnt apply to a single incident and more a systematic series of events...

  • In reply to Fumbles:

So, nothing happened with Jannero Pargo or James Johnson? Too bad.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

There was never anything about James Johnson. There's nobody looking to acquire him and the Bulls aren't proactively trying to trade him.

  • In reply to MrHappy:

lmao yes james johnson stays! & you know what else .... no more makin up trades for you ...now whats your new goal ... ?

  • In reply to Yunqn:

    What's a goal?

  • In reply to Yunqn:

Chris Richard was released...I believe I just heard....

  • In reply to Dmband:

That's too bad, he came in and contributed right away.

Gar Foreman press conf on now...670AM

  • In reply to MrHappy:

So, the Bulls now have 16 PLAYERS ON THEIR ROSTER. By my count, somebody has to go.

Who is that going to be?

  • In reply to MrHappy:

    Mathematical wizardly at it's finest.

  • In reply to WearShades:

    wizardry... I need spellcheck.

  • In reply to WearShades:

Is Chris Richard going back down to the D-League? Or will Pargo be bought out?

  • Man we need John to struggle like he has in the first few months.

  • still hard to believe we paid this joke 2 million for this season. No one would give upa even a 2nd rounder for him.

  • i stll think we're a better team than Milwaukee. i dont think we really have to worry about trading picks, i guess we'll miss those second picks.

do we have a second round pick this year?
