Derrick Rose's big week just got bigger.
Already slated to defend his Skills Challenge title at All-Star
weekend Saturday and make his first All-Star appearance Sunday, Rose
learned he is one of 27 players named to USA Basketball's national team
roster for the 2010-12 commitment.
Besides possibly playing in the 2010 world championships in Turkey,
this means Rose could be on the team that defends Olympic gold at the
2012 London Olympics.
"The Olympics are a big goal of mine," Rose said recently.
It doesn't mean he'll necessarily play in the Olympics, but he's in the pool of players the Olympic team will come from. Given that the Olympics aren't until 2012, I'd say he's highly likely to make the actual Olympic team as several of the guards presently on it will be in significant decline.
I'm not sure if there are really more promising guards to replace him with coming up by that point either.
