Chicago Bulls vs Atlanta Hawks, 7:00 PM WGN

The Chicago Bulls are firmly on the 2010 train this summer. Tonight,
they get a look at shooting guard Joe Johnson who is one of the players
available. Bulls is said to have interest in Johnson, if their main
targets are signed elsewhere.

Bulls forward Luol Deng led Chicago to victory over the New York Knicks
Thursday with a strong performance on both ends of the floor. New York
made history in attempting 29 three-point shots in the first half.

Kirk Hinrich played his best game of the season, as he took advantage
of the lack of guard depth on New York's roster. Against Atlanta,
Hinrich will have to face Johnson, Mike Bibby and former Bull Jamal
Crawford. He and John Salmons will have a difficult task at hand,
trying to match the productivity of the Hawks main three perimeter
players.

Last time these two teams met, the Bulls were beaten by 35 points in
Atlanta. Forward Josh Smith had his way with the Bulls, going inside,
outside and upstairs to finish plays. Bulls center Joakim Noah and
rookie forward Taj Gibson will look to slow him down at the United
Center.

The Bulls could also use a superb game from second-year man Derrick Rose, if they wish to win thier tenth game this season. Rose has struggled this year without having shooters to play off of, and he's been having trouble breaking the wall of defenders who collaps on him.

Chicago will also face old friend Joe Smith, who was a fan favorite at the United Center for the short time he wore a Bulls uniform.

  • doug,im watching derrick rose on youtube....AND WOW is he special..lol we really need to let this kid push the ball and stop being so traditional(pass first, half court)..just let him run push the ball..why did we draft this kid if we cant build around him and put him in a system that fits..same with noah..both guys can run..so let them run..deng and salmons are horrible fits with rose and noah because their half court guys..we need a guard and foward with range, defense and pace..guys who need to run around and do both and not take the ball away from rose and still be effective...(hamilton,bell,pietrus,courtney lee and etc)..i just feel as it isnt no longer vinnys fault..this organization is doing a horrible job of putting this team together and forcing vinny to let them play slow and only play defense(when he really wants guys to push and play hard)..i strongly feel its on the organiztion because vinny did a terrific job w a team in transition last year..early in the year we had a terrible team and did good for how bad we were and then we changed so then we made runs..because of the trade..miller and salmons made spaced..deng slows the tempo, and salmons is a slow paced 2 guard who should be at the 3 which now makes him a horrible fit along rose...vinny isnt the blame...coach or no coach we see this team playing hard..we always said that...its the lack of talent, spacing, depth and injuries(really dont count because hinrich and thomas shouldnt be that important and if they are then look at the result)..skiles wasnt our problem..look at him now..our team is vastly overrated..gordon deng and hinrich arent game changers thats why we never could make it far with 3 10 million per year players..we had a horrid season before rose..and never really made it far..miami was on the decline that year which we should really understand..lol its funny how we run our organiztion in a chris duhon and taj gibson way..just like the article you wrote before we just want a bunch of solid players and have them just play hard and be a nice model for our franchise...what you think dougy?

  • anybody watching this besides me?

  • In reply to djphillie:

Not by a TV, but it appears Joe Johnson wants some money.

  • In reply to djphillie:

    these airballs are &%&*ING embarassing!!!

    we're looking like clowns.
and somehow still only down 9....nope, bibby 3 just made it 12.

do these people know their roles?? do we have a scheme, offense or defense? any plays del negro?

  • In reply to djphillie:

look its over for blaming vinny..he's not perfect but even if we ran a play our team cant execute it..vinnys not on the floor its our team..if we have guys whos quiting on vinny then whos fault is that..because these guys did it to skiles, and boylan been lost them but thats the kind of players we have..quit when were losing..stay down when were there...its the players at the end of the day..as great as phil jackson or gregg poppovich is..their team is on the court..they cant make baskets and play d for their team..vinny has one and a half year and honestly if you looked at his coaching for both early seasons(last year and before) hes had big success for how bad we were constructed..and quess what was making it.something we dont do now..fastpace,spacing,shooting,hard playing..look at our team..deng and salmons(half court players)deng, salmons, hinrich, johnson, rose, noah, and gibson( all bad three point shooters..thats why when gordon was here vinny let him dribble around because he was his best shot at perfecting his offense(spacing)thats why we did great w miller and salmons because we had more shooters for rose to add spacing to gordon because he spaced and pushed to ball for us..

  • In reply to Yunqn:

no we dont miss gordon as much as you think..i think he's vastly overrated(contract)but his shot and threat is all we need..deng and salmons are terrible fits..these guys cant shoot or play up and down.thats why with these two guys our team is different and terrible vs the last years one down the stretch..

  • In reply to Yunqn:

its not about deng and salmons making points up gordons points..but its how their making it up at trying to replace a part that helped our team...our team is the exact same as last..noah is better and so is rose...taj is an improvment so we should be better right? wrong deng is new and cant fit w rose or noah..salmons is at a position that makes him terrible(too slow and to much one on one)..vinny is no longer the blame..deng is playing good but he's hurting our biggst production needed from rose and noah because the way he needs his points are changing how rose and noah should be playing..hinrich goes threw months of slumps and now is always going to get hurt someway..and salmons has always been inconsistent...vinny is no longer the blame..its the players and garpax

  • In reply to Yunqn:

    technical?? WTF

what kind of call is that? pussy ref. let them play

  • In reply to Yunqn:

    What a joke call!!

  • In reply to Yunqn:

Deng appears to be the only one plating aggressive...or in the words of our own Mr. Happy, with "HEART AND LEADERSHIP."
Rose steps up here and there, but hasn't been consistent. if we can play together and play smart, and tough, we can win this. although i don't have high hopes for any of that...down 8 as we speak

  • In reply to djphillie:

because deng is the only guy who can play in the half court in which the bulls just turned into over the summer..limiting derricks oppurtunity at trying to attack because of no spacing or tempo

  • In reply to djphillie:

Going to be pretty hard to win without anyone who can shoot a three

  • In reply to djphillie:

    Derrick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • In reply to djphillie:

damn, Rose went HARD!! this is what we fiend for from him on a more consistent basis.
yes!! come on, we need this win!!....

  • In reply to djphillie:

wow. we had no back up plan. atlanta smothered us, no one to give it to. no set ups. ugh...overtime it is

  • In reply to djphillie:

The small lineup played really well in the second quarter. We went with it down 14 and got it to 6

  • In reply to djphillie:

deng almost turned it over. rose a prime example of "right place at the right time"

  • In reply to djphillie:

All play there. We definetely haven't been getting the home court advantage

  • In reply to djphillie:

rose with the clutch free throw shots! YES!

  • In reply to djphillie:

can we say 2 game win streak??! haha. how long has it been since we've seen one of those?

  • In reply to djphillie:

    HUGE WIN!!!

    Way to go boys.

  • In reply to djphillie:

Feel good win of the year. LEADERSHIP and HEART!

  • In reply to djphillie:

Yay! Bulls have a winning streak! Only two games, but I'll take it. We played solid D and beat a good / hot team.

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

we ended their 6 game winning streak. sounds good. but after 6 straight wins and a tough win the previous night, you'd expect it to end anytime for atlanta. luckily for us it was against us. and we played it out, and stayed aggressive enough when it mattered and pulled out the W.

  • In reply to djphillie:

I'm with you buddy. Are these guys playing in slow motion?

  • In reply to djphillie:

Watching from New Jersey. Thank God for WGN America which we get out here. I can catch the periodic Bulls (and White Sox) game. They're playing hard. I like the hustle their showing. Hopefully, we can turn it up more in the second half but Joe Johnson is on fire. We've got to get better at the free throw line. Going 6 for 11 is nearly the difference in the game.

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

yeah, im in Charleston, SC watching on WGN America. we started to look better at the end of the 1st half. lets hope we can communicate and regroup and play tough this 2nd half. we need a hot start.

  • In reply to jamatokwu:

we have a tied game now...bulls doing what they had to do, start strong in the 2nd half. lets stay on this course.

  • only positive i can take from this is that Joe Johnson is on my fantasy team. i knew what to expect of dude this year. i think i had him when i did a fantasy league 2 years ago. dude has always been pretty solid.

lets go Bulls! would be awesome to win this one as sort of revenge or payback for our previous humiliation of a game against them.
