Bulls fail to trade for cancerous player

Per yahoo sports:

The Golden State Warriors have agreed in principle to send Stephen Jackson to the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for Raja Bell and Vladimir Radmanovic, NBA sources said Monday morning.

The deal also would send Warriors guard Acie Law to the Bobcats.

I'm sure some Bulls fans will still find someway to be mad, but I'm not one of them.

Seriously what are Brown/Jordan thinking on this one?

  • Who knows what MJ and Brown are thinking. I wouldn't touch SJAX with a 10-foot pole. Unfortunately, that might take Kelenna Azubuike out of play for next summer's free agency.

  • What is MJ thinking? MJ is thinking how can he make more money on his Jordan brand. He is not even thinking of the Bobcats, he is one of the worst in the league of owners/president or whatever the hell he is. This move is ok I guess, this bobcat team couldnt score for crap and Sjax will provide a little boost. They still wont make the playoffs but atleast they will be entertaining. They will regret the deal next year when Brown and SJax are going at it though. Also if any Bulls fans are mad at not trading for SJax than they honestly dont understand our 2010 plan, and the the reason we traded Noc.

  • Also MJ is such an embarassement that his best move ever was drafting Brendan Haywood. Now thats bad.

  • Also its a good deal for the Warriors in that they get rid of that near 30 mil they owe Jax and Raja expires at the end of the season and Vlad expires after next season. I say Vlad will be Nelsons new whipping boy.

  • Prediction: SJax will do will for Charlotte, but that is because they really don't have any good young players that he can serve as a role model for, and Larry Brown seemed do the best job of anyone handling Iverson. SJax would be a mess for the Bulls; however.

  • I agree Doug, I see no reason why they (the Bulls) would want to pursue Jackson. Personally, I have been very encouraged at the development of the team so far...I went back and I read some of the concerns regarding Rose, and I have to say, Im very concerned that injury is going to be one of those "lingering" issues that may require they "shut him down" for an extended period of time...I'd rather seem them do that sooner, than later if thats the case...

Thats all conjecture by the way.

  • Back to the cap.

    21.5 to spend - 17 for a max player = 4.5 left over

How do they use that 4.5 to fill 6 roster spots, including draft picks?

  • Good lord, the Bobcats have no clue how to build a roster. I should go apply for their general manager position. First, they pollute their roster with Radmanovic, and then they package him to aquire Jackson. Wow.

The Warriors are now looking a lot better rotation wise. They put a end to the horrid Jackson/Maggette pairing, and they pick up two players that shouldn't play a whole lot, if at all.

    Ellis/Curry/Watson
    Morrow/Bell
    Maggette/Azubuike/Radmanovic
    Randloph/Wright/Radmanovic
    Biedrins/Turiaf/Moore

  • Jackson is the most dispicable person currently in the NBA, perhaps ever.

Not only would I never accept Jackson on the Bulls, he should have been permantly barred from the NBA after the malice in the Palace.

Artest may have been the instigator, but Jackson behaved like a muderous, gang banging, drug dealing, crack smoking thug on PCP relishing the opportunity to attack and maim anyone he could get his hands on.

Just the look on his face as he randomly sought out any victim to assualt should have been enough to get him jail time, not just a suspension. He should absolutely have been charged with felony assualt, done jail time, and never been allowed back in the NBA.

Michael Vick, and the Fort Hood terrorist have nothing on Jackson as seriously deranged and evil human beings.

Michael Jordan, Larry Brown, and every other NBA executive who ever traded or employed Jackson should really look at themselves in the mirror, or be forced to have Jackson baby sit and mentor their children.

Jackson may be the ulitmate poster boy for the disgusting hypocrasy that is sports in America. But, Hey, at least the Bobcats will be less offensively challenged.

  • Doug,

I'm thinking that if all the major free-agents stay home, then it might be a good idea for the Bulls to keep John Salmons and trade your boy, James Johnson, and their #1 pick for Evan Turner.

    PG - Rose
    SG - Turner
    SF - Deng
    PF - Gibson
    C - Noah

    PG/SG - Hinrich
    SG/SF - Salmons
    PF/C - Miller

That's a nice 8-man rotation to build on.

    * Tyrus Thomas can be used in a trade to add more veterans.

  • Bla, blah, blah, 10ft pole.
blah, blah, blah, murderous, terrorist, thug,
    blah, blah, blah, blah.
What's the whole point of this thread anyway? Well, let me try to give it one by entering a dissenting opinion. At some tiny level, I have to feel like it was for my benefit as I was the obnoxious poster praying that the Bulls would make the trade.

Guys!!! If we could have shipped hinrich/salmons (more talent and same cap space that GS got) for that package, we would have been in a much better position now and next year. A good NBA sg (earning less than Hinrich), a back-up getting paid like a back-up, and 4mil in our pocket for next year (if salmons decides to play out his contract). But hey, that's just common sense and Jackson is a cancerous, murderous thug...

That was probably our best chance to unload Hinrich's contract (nothing against hinrich, I like hinrich, but he's an albatros after the last few years of ultra-talented pg's coming up), and so now Hinrich will be our starting sg next year and you guys will be whining and moaning, and we're going to continue our anemic scoring without any real playmakers, and salmons will probably play out his contract, sending our Talented young core into obscurity for years to come.

What a collection of numbskulls. What is Jordan thinking?? He's doing backflips my friend. He just picked up a very talented and relatively cheap player in Jackson who will play his heart out. I just feel sorry for Jackson, as he will probably end his career without seeing the play-offs again. I'd be pissed too.

Is there any bright side? Yes. Cleveland didn't get him either.

  • In reply to josephbenveniste:

Well, you are obviously the type of sports fan all to prevalent in America today that lets these guys get away with being @holes as long as they appear to play well.

Your argument appears to be the old "the ends justify the means" not exactly high moral ground.

Just go back and look at the tape of the malice at the palace, focus on Jackson only. If you still feel that he not only deserves to still be in the NBA but that you would want him on this Bulls team, then I suggest he babysit for your kids.

Add to this the fact that he has been a chemistry destroyer on every team that he has been with(I've lost count, but it has to be 5-7 teams)

Talent alone isn't enough to make one a winner, and Jackson is a loser in every sense of the word, as is anyone who is a fan of his and would tolerate him on thier team.

I had serious qualms with the Bulls acquisition of Rodman at the time even though I predicted the night of the trade that we would win 70 games and repeat 3 peat. However, every antic that Rodman ever committed in his entire career, doesn't even come close to the level of pure animalist evil that Jacksons one night in the stands in Detriot did. Rodman was a clown, Jackson is a criminal.

  • In reply to BigWay:

Sorry, This was meant to be a reply to sfBulls, not you Doug.

And I cannot stress this enough, go back and watch the tape of the malice at the palace and focus only of Jackson, you will be sick to your stomach, and a chill will run up and down your spine, and not the good kind.

  • Fine,
I'm not in love with Jackson either... though I would argue that saying he's not talented really stretches credulity. And calling someone a bad human being is a little holier than thou, don't you think? Actually, i don't think you're being reasonable at all...

While I want Hinrich, Salmons, and Rose to play up to their potential (to be determined) this year, and one could make the argument that this "forces" Rose to start scoring at a more aggressive clip consistently..... this brings us to a question which has to answered... sooner rather than later. What does our back court look like next year?? And how can it jive with a team that could make it to the finals. If we're not asking and (as a front office) trying to answer this question, we are really selling ourselves short as a team.

While, as fans, it can be unproductive to go floating off into possible trade scenarios when we have a promising team this year, we also have to hold the Bulls to a higher standard. We, as Bulls fans, should want to Win It All... and if we're consistently satisfied with less than that, we should ask ourselves what this is all for anyways.

Let's root for this team to be its best, for now, but come trading deadline we have to be ready to look towards the future and demand that the Bulls put together a Championship caliber team again. If there's any way that hinrich can be part of that team, or salmons if we unload hinrich, then GREAT! If not, then we gotta get serious about making some moves. As you said, it should be easy, right???

  • In reply to josephbenveniste:

Again, go back and watch the tape, then get back to us on the "holier than thou" canard.

  • In reply to josephbenveniste:

As much as I would love to see Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh playing for the Bulls, I'm don't have that much faith in the Bulls management to get that done. That is why I think trading for Marcus Camby, using Tyrus Thomas and Jerome James, makes sense for them. At least, the Bulls could see what they have in Taj Gibson without losing any real production. Marcus Camby is a veteran version of Ty Thomas.

    Example:

To Clippers: Tyrus Thomas and Jerome James
To Bulls: Marcus Camby and Ricky Davis (or Mardy Collins)

Also, it would be nice for the Bulls to acquire a lottery pick through trade not record, so they can go after guys like Evan Turner or Cole Aldrich. Just another back-up plan, if their 2010 free-agency efforts go bad. This is why they need to play James Johnson more. He could be used for those purposes.

    Example:

To Clippers: James Johnson (San Diego County native) and their #1 pick
    To Bulls: Clippers lottery pick

Personally, if the Bulls can't get Dwyane Wade, I wouldn't mind seeing a different "all Chicago" backcourt.

    Starters:

PG - Derrick Rose, SG - Evan Turner, SF - Luol Deng, PF - Taj Gibson, C - Joakim Noah

    Bench:

PG - Kirk Hinrich, SG - Ricky Davis, SF - John Salmons, PF - Brad Miller, C - Marcus Camby

That would be a nice mix of solid veterans and exciting young players. Add one or two more pieces via free-agency and you never know the heights they could reach. It's something to think about.

  • amazing post period.

  • Doug hmmmmmmmmm nope. We are struggling to score yet Bulls wont sign a player for our backcourt just because it would probably make us one mil over the cap.

  • Considering if the Buls stay under the luxury tax they make 11 million my guess is they would have to be convinced they could make the ECF to go over LT

  • This year your going to make a little less than 6 million from the money you will get back of all the tax payers. Plus your probably going to have to spend 3.5 million extra to help team in crisis to get out of LT barrier

  • Sure, I'll just agree to disagree with everyone on Jackson (except Cleveland and MJ ...those losers).

Actually, I like the team as it is right now. I think the main problem is that the back court is underachieving (or Really underachieving depending on what you think their ceiling is), and I think the Bulls have failed miserably on utilizing Thomas (Ty being what he is, the onus is on coaching, the adults in the room, to figure out a way to utilize his game changing abilities instead of sending him to his room without supper).
In general, now that we have the defense down, I would like to see some more sophistication on offensive play calling... run plays that play to different player's (ie, Thomas', etc) strengths, ya know?

I'll be generous, and give management a 'B' on their last few moves given the circumstances. But letting gordon walk, and potentially letting thomas walk next year... no, i'm not impressed. Remember, Rose was an act of god. I'm sure Management 'wants' to win, but i'm not sure they're very good at what they do compared to championship caliber teams. Championship teams, make their own circumstances, don't let trade rumors linger for half a season, make the forward thinking moves and shoot from the hip.

So the point isn't whether Management wants to win (and I wouldn't go into lux this early in the season to 'fix' the offense either)... It's what's our back court going to look like next year (taking for granted that we will do what we need to for a play making Max FA), and can Hinrich possibly earn the right to pull in 9Mil on a championship caliber team? I really hope he proves he can, and I hope Management forces him to prove it.

  • Thank you.

  • Maybe that one year in GS when they beat the Mavericks in the playoffs.

He has worn out his welcome in a bigway every single place that he has been. So what exactly does that make him even if the malice at the palace had never happened, a team cancer instead of a psychotic murderous team cancer.
