Rose injures ankle and achilles; Salmons not on London trip

K.C. Johnson: Rose sits out practice; Salmons doesn't even get that far.

Derrick Rose celebrated his 21st birthday Sunday, but he also sat out Bulls practice after hurting his right ankle and Achilles in Friday's game in Indiana. Rose said he isn't sure whether he'd play Tuesday against Utah at this city's O2 Arena.

......

The Bulls also are without John Salmons, who is back in the U.S. because his wife is close to giving birth to their second child.

At times like this, you need Curtis Stinson on your team. Although this might also be the only time you need Curtis Stinson on your team.
Kirk Hinrich didn't play in the preseason opener with a slight hamstring injury, and Jannero Pargo sat out with a minor wrist injury. So if they can't go, and if Rose also can't play versus the Jazz on Tuesday, then this will probably mean that my first ever NBA game will feature a starting backcourt of Lindsey Hunter and Derrick Byars. That would be.......something.

Injuries like this will be even less significant than they already are once the regular season rolls around, but they also serve as a reminder of the dangers of running with a 13 man roster. Particularly when one of those 13 is Jerome James. Our backcourt already has only 5 players in it (not including Byars), and with 4 injuries to those 5, it can't get much thinner than that. We can only hope that this comparative lack of depth won't be an issue during the season.

  • This better not be a sign of things to come. My biggest fear for the Bulls is them having an injury prone year like the Bucks have had the past three seasons. I would like to see what Derrick can do with major minutes Tuesday though.

  • Why not play James Johnson at Point Guard?

  • Lindsey should be in shape by games end.

  • Mark your going to the game?

  • Rose and Tyrus are playing. Vinny just said so. http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/bulls_visit_london_091001.html
