Bulls @ Timberwolves 7pm CST on CSN

Bulls going up against the Timberwolves gives us a chance to watch one of my favorite pre-draft players, Johnny Flynn.  It's kind of a shame that Rose has missed so much time in preseason, because it would have been fun to watch him go against Jennings twice and Flynn once.

The Bulls will likely play with a narrow roster again.  If I'm not
mistaken, they'll be missing Rose/Tyrus still, and if Miller had the
flu yesterday, then chances are he'll still be out today.   As such, we'll be spending our time keeping a special eye on Noah, Johnson, and Gibson again, but it's also worth seeing what the vets bring.

They've been pretty off for a couple of games now, and I'd like to see some better shooting performances out of Hinrich, Salmons, and especially Deng.   The Bulls will be counting heavily on the trio once the regular season starts, and they haven't played all that well to open up the season.

  • I was a bit decisive in my opinions of Flynn before the draft, and in the early going, my opinions look to be wrong. So I'd like to see some spectacular abject failure out of him today please.

Oh and if Wayne Ellington could do a Voshon Lenard impression, that'd also be sweet.

  • Doug,

I'm haven't heard if Love and Jefferson are playing for the T-Wolves or not. I'm pretty sure they will, so that ought to be a nice test for Gibson and Noah.

Hopefully, Deng and Salmons get their shooting touch back and Pargo stops forcing bad shots. Also, I think Byars needs a 10 point and 5 rebound type performance tonight, as well as next game vs. the T-Wolves. That would really help his case to grab a spot on the roster.

It should be a good game. I'm anxious to see all the good young players, on both sides, play tonight.

  • I wasn't nice about Jennings either, pre-draft. But I've never seen him look better than he did last night. He was pretty awesome. Especially since he is supposed to be suffering from fatigue. The better spacing and higher tempo of the NBA game suits him to a tee.

  • Taj just picked up his third foul. They better get Noah in the game.

  • Why does Derrick Byars only have 5mins. played when everyone else is pushing 12mins.+ played?

  • VDN needs to do a better job with his substituitions. At halftime, Johnson has 0 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 1 turnover, and 3 fouls in 17 minutes of action.

Where's Derrick Byars at? Is VDN giving this kid an HONEST shot at making the team?

  • Hey what do you know, Derrick Byars finally got back in the game with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

That's ridiculous. He clearly outplayed James Johnson in the first half. They should always give minutes to players that earn them on the floor, not in the pocket-book.

  • Are we watching the Cubs or the Bulls?

  • The Pargo/Byars/Johnson/Gibson/Richard lineup is not NBA calibre. Who knew!

  • Taj Gibson...6 - 6 - 6

    (6 points, 6 rebounds and 6 fouls)

  • Bulls Win...99-94

    Pargo was brutal.

Johnson was not good, until the 4th quarter.

Byars played well, despite the fact in ONLY GOT 15 minutes of action.

    Noah continued to play well.

Richard might have been the best guy out there tonight, scoring a double-double.

Deng and Salmons had nice games.

    Hinrich was his steady self.

Taj struggled for most of the game before fouling out.

VDN's coaching was AWFUL!!!! Let me give him some advice. START PLAYING THE GUYS WHO EARN THEIR MINUTES (BYARS), INSTEAD OF THE GUYS WHO EARN THE MONEY (PARGO AND JOHNSON). Keep the politics in Washington D.C.

  • Way!

  • Doug and Mark,

Johnson was BRUTAL for three quarters. Anyway, Byars isn't competing with Johnson for a roster spot. He should get his chance vs. Pargo and Hunter though. Those two guys were even worse yesterday. Their performance or lack there of is reason enough to keep Byars around. It's hard to impress when you only get 3 shots in 15 minutes of action.

    STAT-LINE:

    Pargo - 3/13 FG's, 6 pts., 4 asts., 4 rbs. and 3 to's in 26 mins.

    Hunter - 1/6 FG's, 3 pts., 2 asts., 1 rbs. and 1 to's in 15 mins.

    Byars - 2/3 FG's, 5 pts., 1 asts., 3 rbs., 1 to's and 1 blks. in 15 mins.

Who had the better game? Who's had the more consistent pre-season out of those three guys? The answer is pretty clear. It was Derrick Byars. With Hunter a year away from retirement and Pargo inconsistent, undersized and on a 1-year deal, I think they should find a way to keep Derrick Byars in the mix. He's only going to get better. I think he could learn a lot by practicing against Rose, Hinrich, Salmons, Deng and Pargo each day, rather than spending more time in the D-League.

They have the money and need to keep him and they should.
