More Boozer to Chicago rumors

Reported from the twitter account of 1280 The Zone, a Utah sports radio station.

Source" tells me
that Jazz R trying 4 a 3 way w/ Port and Chi to send Booze to CHI and
PG Heinrich to Port so Blazers don't offer Millsap

First, I hate that news is now sent out via twitter.   I understand it.   People are too lazy to write more than 20 words about a rumor, so they do it via twitter where they don't have to.   Still, I'd love to hear more than 20 words about a rumor.

Getting over the fact that I'm now officially old (see above), the trade seems to involve Tyrus to Utah, Hinrich to Portland, and Boozer to Chicago.   This seems like a pretty sweet deal for the Bulls with the lone problem being that we're desperately thin at guard after the trade.

Still, Hinrich doesn't seem like a good long term fit and neither does Tyrus.   Boozer, if he can stay healthy, would upgrade the fortunes of the team this season making it more desirable to get a different big man next season.  I wouldn't be willing to throw in a 1st on top of Hinrich/Tyrus as is being reported in the realgm thread myself though.

While many fans would expect an extension as part of the deal, I would find this to be unlikely in this case.   Management isn't going to be amped to take on the extra risk of an injury prone player like Boozer, not on an extension big enough to make him forego his opportunity to collect a huge check in 2010 when many teams will have cap space.

Still, if Boozer plays well, we'd have an opportunity to bring him back next season.   The trade also frees up considerable room on next year's salary cap as we move Kirk Hinrich and replace him with a very good expiring contract.   The Bulls would then be able to add a maximum player and still have quite a bit more room to tweak the roster.   On the downside, they're really unlikely to tweak the roster in such a way that brings in a player better than Kirk Hinrich.

I've predicted before that the Bulls are going to blow up the whole team except Derrick Rose, this trade would be one more step in that direction.

  • Blazers: Hinrich and Brewer

    Bulls: Boozer and Webster

    Jazz: Outlaw and Ty.Thomas

    Can this happen?

Bulls: They have needed a post presence for the longest and he complements Noah style of play. Not only that, we finally get a guy we can throw the ball to on the block and expect production. I can see Vinny incorporating a style of play that he and Okur plays in Utah, the "high and low" for Boozer and Miller. Hope we give him a extension if he performs. We also get insurance for the aging Salmons. I think Webster will be really good. I hear he wants out because of the Rudy and Brandon fiesta.

Blazers: Pritchard likes Hinrich, which is not hard to calcualte, and I think he performs well next to a ball dominant player like Roy. He's a upgrade over Blake. I think Rodriguez is dust at this point. They now have a depth chart of Hinrich and Blake which is very stable.

Jazz: Not sure why they want to give up Boozer, maybe because he's gone for good after this season? Hey, I know their GM does a good job of managing the team, and I mean manage!

  • LINEUP...
    Rose-Pargo
    Salmons-Pargo
    Deng (INJ)-Salmons/Johnson
    Boozer (INJ)-Taj/Johnson
    Noah-Miller

This roster is not a good one i think...say Deng or Boozer goes down or even play through injury like Salmons did towards the end...this is a thin team struggling to make the playoffs...

Another piece has to be involved to add depth or some sort of incentive to make this worth while...Outlaw, Fernandez or a SG/SF

  • I'd do the deal in a heartbeat, but would feel a ton better about it if Bayless or Fernandez was headed to Chicago as well.

  • Bulls haven

  • I doubt this. I believe it puts the Bulls in Luxury Tax territory.

  • So doug,

If we made this trade what would our cap space ne then. Would we have some space or is it still the same. Like could we sign a potential guard like a Daniels or a Wafer if we made this trade?

  • I think any option we have coming here has some risk. Is Boozer a injury risk, yes but we have to take some risk in order to improve this team. I think it is big risk to hope Bosch comes here next year, too many people will be after him. We have a chance, but no garauntee he will come here. Lebon isnt, odds that Wade wont, so our options will be limited. If we get Boozer at least it gives us a year to see if he can stay healthy and still can dump his salary if he doesnt work out. If we can get Blake back in the deal would help our depth out quite a bit, since with Kirk going to Blazer, they wont have a spot for Blake.
