All in all, it's just another brick in Trump's wall

Donald Trump promised his anti-immigrant friends that he was going to build a 20-foot concrete wall across our southern border and have Mexico pay for it.

I know it sounds crazy, but he did.

Remember that he started his political career in 2010 calling Barack Obama a Kenyan, then followed it up in 2015 by calling Mexicans murderers and rapists.

No wall will provide national security, stem illegal immigration, stop the flow of drugs or hinder human trafficking.

Trump's wall would be a waste of resources that could be better used on stuff invented in the 20th or 21st Centuries.

Trump wants $5.7 Billion for a border wall that he says will be paid for by his fantastic new trade deal with Mexico.

A trade deal that is little more than NAFTA 2.0, has yet to be ratified by Congress and provides for no such reimbursement to the U.S. treasury.

Toward the end of the (35-day) shutdown, Trump said that he might be willing to settle for a down payment on his wall, estimates for which range from $30 Billion to $70 Billion.  Isn't the $5.7 Billion itself a down payment?

Eight prototype walls were constructed near San Diego, CA, but they all failed breachability tests. In other words, they didn't work.

There is no plan other than "steel slats" for Trump's wall, no contractors or sites selected.  Who gets the money ?  Stephen Miller?  Oleg Deripaska?  Evraz, the Russian company that supplied steel for the Keystone XL pipeline?

Border security and Trump's wall are not related.  The wall is one of the least effective ways to achieve border security.

The current trial of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman highlights the fact that walls aren't much of an obstacle.

Testimony of witnesses against Guzman show that the drug kingpin wasn't sneaking drugs across the border in the middle of the desert, but driving right through official points of entry.

Besides trucks, Guzman employed planes and submarines, which no wall could stop and sophisticated tunneling methods where walls were in place.

Guzman was able to ride out of prison on a motorcycle through a tunnel that had been dug for his escape.

Border violence ranks high on Trump's list of imaginary problems.  El Paso, TX is right across the border from Juarez, MX, yet it's ranked as the safest city in America over 500,000 population.

At the beginning of Trump's presidency, he signed an order to hire 15,000 additional border agents.  Today, there are thousands of agents LESS than when that order was signed.  Where's the crisis?

Trump says that his wall may be medieval, but so is the wheel and we're still using that.  Really?  When was the last time you saw a Ferrari ripping down the freeway on wooden wheels?

Leading up to last year's midterms, Trump warned of an apocalyptic crisis of a caravan coming up from Central America.  That was supposed to scare people into voting for Republicans who, according to Republicans are the only ones who care about border security.

Magically, the caravan disappeared the day after the Democrats swept into the House of Representatives.

Trump's border crises are typical of his divisive scare tactics. The only humanitarian crisis is the one he created by ripping children out of their parents' arms.

Trump's own Department of Homeland Security has found no cases of women being duck taped and driven across the border.  The vast majority of human trafficking cases involve U.S. citizens, not foreign nationals driven in from Mexico.

There's a lot we could do to secure our borders, but a wall across Mexico is not one of them.  Four or five times more criminals were apprehended coming in from Canada last year than Mexico.

We have thousands of miles of coastline that are very sparsely patrolled and only a fraction of cargo coming into our ports is inspected.

Our intelligence agencies (CIA, FBI, National Intelligence Director, etc) gave Congress a realistic threat assessment today.  No border crisis was on the list.

They said that Trump's assessment of ISIS being defeated is at best, inaccurate.  ISIS is very much alive and a serious threat to America.

Many of Trump's claims were refuted during today's testimony.  Apparently, Fox News is not the most reliable source of intelligence.

For example, North Korea has no intention of eliminating its nuclear program.  TWENTY new secret nuclear installations have been discovered.

Russia's cyber attacks were added to the list of security threats.  Russia is a hostile nation that has in the past and continues to attack our democracy.

Saudi Arabia's crown prince (Mohammed bin Salman) was identified as having given the order to murder U.S. resident and Washington Post reporter Jamal Khashoggi.

Trump, however still exonerates Russia (Putin) and MSB because they deny their crimes "strongly."  Maybe that's why Putin and bin Salman can be seen high fiving each other in Argentina.

Republicans could've given Trump his wall when they controlled all three branches of government, but they know it's an idiotic waste of money.

It would also lead to protracted legal battles over land rights.

In the end, Trump would rather fight about the wall than actually build it.  That way he can continue to demonize Democrats and stir the basket.  I mean the pot.
