America is in the throes of a virulent disease eating away at the fabric of democracy. It is deadlier than flesh eating bacteria and consumes from within.
Whataboutism is not new, but the pandemic spreading across our nation is destroying the concept of objective reality. Donald Trump knows nothing about anything and he doesn't want to. This makes him a god to those who share his mental incapacity.
Whataboutism is a crutch, supporting the arguments of those who have neither historic reference nor current events at their disposal. It's the, "Hey, what's that over there?" of the Trump era.
Every transgression of a man who has no affection for America or Americans can be defended with the default, "What about Benghazi?"
Here's what about Benghazi: "Benghazi, Benghazi, Benghazi: I know nothing about it, but I can't stop saying it" There were eight Republican investigations over two years that all came up with the same conclusion: Nothing there.
For two years Benghazi was the focal point of our nation's (Republican) lawmakers, consumed with the destruction of Hillary Clinton, culminating with an 11-hour interrogation of the hated Democrat.
So I ask you, what about Benghazi? Do you even know where it is? Do you know what happened there?
Then there's the email thing or in Jeopardy phraseology, "What about the emails, Alex?"
Well, what about them?
I remember a certain presidential candidate appealing to his Russian collaborators to find the emails: “I will tell you this: Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” he said. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”
That was a man running for the office of President of the United States encouraging a foreign adversary to illegally hack into messages by a former secretary of state that might contain sensitive information, then release them publicly.
And you want to lock up whom?
Two weeks into the Trump presidency it was discovered that Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump were using private emails for government correspondence. Didn't hear any "Lock them up" chants about that.
Thousands of hours of going through Hllary's emails and private server turned up nothing but carelessness.
Title 18, Section 798 of the United States Code says that it is a federal offense for anybody to deliberately use classified information to undermine the safety or interest of the United States.
Donald Trump invited two of Russia's top spies ( Sergei Lavrov & Sergey Kislyak) into the Oval Office with only members of the Russian press in attendance. In that meeting Trump disclosed classified information to the Ruski's provided to the United States by Israeli intelligence.
The president can, at his discretion declassify information. At the time he disclosed the information however, it was still classified. In effect, he unmasked Israeli operatives without regard for their safety or our relationship with Israeli intelligence, agencies that provide information crucial to keeping America safe.
Was Trump paying off a debt, a quid pro quo? Was he demonstrating his new level of access? Does it really matter?
Hillary Clinton may have been careless or negligent in protecting her email servers. Feel free to call her a feckless c**t, but remember that she isn't president right now. Neither is Barack Obama or Bill Clinton.
Donald Trump is actively engaged in espionage against the United States in collusion with the Russian government. We can speculate as to why Trump does what he does, but that is for another time, perhaps another generation.
What about Benghazi? What about Hillary's emails? As Bernie Sanders said, "I've heard enough about the damn emails."
