Will Mike Pence fall into the abyss that is Trumpism?

Mike Pence may be the anti-Christ, Mussolini and David Duke all rolled into one, but it's possible that he's bitten off a bit more than he can chew.

Donald Trump's selection of Indiana Governor Mike Pence as his running mate is strange, strategically speaking.  He should have picked someone who could help him with Republican-leaning Independent women, the group he needs most if he wants to win in November.

I don't know if Mike Dunce is a Grand Kookoo (or whatever they call it) in the Ku Klux Klan, but it's worth noting that in the 1920's, Indiana had the largest, most powerful Klan organization in the country.

By 1924 there were well over 100,000 Klan members in Indiana, and that was out of a population of less than 3 million.  It's unlikely that all that hatred and backward ideology just disappeared in the following generations.  As history has shown us, hatred has a life all its own.

For the most part, Dunce has a polished, low key style, a sharp contrast to his "bigly" running mate.  His soft-spoken message though, belies his extreme and backward world view.  In Mike Pence-acola, smoking doesn't cause lung cancer and he's got a very good reason for saying it.

Not everyone who smokes dies of lung cancer.  This is what Mike Dunce said in 2001:

"In the coming weeks, Americans are going to be treated with the worst kind of Washington-speak regarding the tobacco legislation currently being considered by the Congress and Attorney Generals (sic) from forty different states. We will hear about the scourge of tobacco and the resultant premature deaths. We will hear about how this phalanx of government elates (sic) has suddenly grown a conscience after decades of subsidizing the product which, we are now told, "kills millions of Americans each year".   Time for a quick reality check. Despite the hysteria from the political class and the media, smoking doesn't kill. In fact, 2 out of every three smokers does (sic) not die from a smoking related illness and 9 out of ten smokers do not contract lung cancer."

We should give him a pass on spelling and grammar and focus on the pretzel logic typical of the extreme right.  As  Slate's Ben Mathis-Lilley noted, "Mike Pence Might Not Be Too Smart"

Dunce failed his first test when responding to a question from Air Force mother, Catherine Byrne.  Byrne was applauded when she stood up and announced that her son was serving in the Air Force, but the crowd turned ugly when she confronted Dunce over Donald Trump’s comments on the Khan family.

Instead of telling the crowd that we do not boo a Blue Star mom, Mike Dunce said, "That's what freedom looks like."  Really, Mike?

That's what freedom looks like is something you might say about a neo-Nazi wearing an SS uniform.  Or a fellow Hoosier wearing a white sheet.

A Blue Star mother should not need anyone's permission to speak her mind and she should not be disrespected for doing it.

That goes quadruple for a Gold Star family.

Mike Dunce failed his second test by repeating the ridiculous claim that Hillary Clinton told her audience that she would raise taxes on the middle class.  The video is clear, she said "We AREN'T going to raise taxes on the middle class."

It's exactly what she's been saying for a year and everyone knows it.  Why Dunce would say otherwise only hurts his own credibility.  It's just more of the nonexistent videos that Trump seems to hallucinate on a regular basis.

If Don the Con and his pet hyena, Mike Dunce don't know how to treat our Blue Star families and our Gold Star families, they are frauds.  Their proclaimed support of our troops is nothing more than empty words.

Former RNC Chairman, Michael Steele said that Trump's attack of a Gold Star family was the result of Mr. Bigly not being a professional politician.

You don't get a pass for disrespecting a Gold Star family because you're not a professional politician.

I know lots of people who are not professional politicians who show profound respect to the families of those who serve and those who have sacrificed.

If Donald Trump doesn't know how to treat the families of America's defenders, it is because he has no respect for real service or real sacrifice.  The fact is, he has no respect for anyone, not even the group he calls, "my poorly educated."
