Chicago Bears hit NFL Free Agency, sign four on day one

Chicago Bears hit NFL Free Agency, sign four on day one
The Chicago Bears leaped right into NFL Free Agency and announced deals with four players less than two hours after the new league year began on Tuesday. First up was 6-3, 300 lb. defensive end Lamarr Houston. Houston was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the second round (44th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.... Read more »

Why Josh Freeman to the Chicago Bears makes sense

Why Josh Freeman to the Chicago Bears makes sense
First off, let me emphatically say that Jay Cutler is the Chicago Bears’ QB and that shouldn’t change. One bad game does not a season make. However, recently released former Bucs QB Josh Freeman would make one heck of a backup. Let me ask you: If Cutty got hurt, who would you rather have as... Read more »

Chicago Bears: Top 5 undrafted free agents most likely to make roster

Zach Minter, DT, Montana State

Chicago did not draft any defensive tackles, despite having very few with any significant playing time on the roster. And Minter produced 8.5 tackles-for-loss and three sacks last season, despite missing two full games and most of two others with injuries.

So Minter has positional advantage going for him, but he also has something else: elite athleticism. NFL Draft Scout credits Minter with a fast 40-yard dash, ranging from 4.78 to 5.02 seconds. He was also impressive in the bench press and had a vertical leap of 34.5 inches at his Pro Day. Those numbers would have either been the best, or among the best, at the DT position at the Combine...if he had been invited.

Minter suffered from a nagging hamstring injury last season and does not have elite size but should be able to contribute on special teams if nothing else. Given the Bears’ lack of depth at DT, he has a shot.
The Chicago Bears signed 10 undrafted free agents—or “UFAs”—and while all are a long-shot to make the team, some have a better chance to stick than others. Although there are always a few diamonds in the rough, there are often good reasons why these players didn’t get drafted. Heck, we don’t even know if all of... Read more »

Terrell Owens lobbying to join Chicago Bears?

Terrell Owens lobbying to join Chicago Bears?
It’s a very unlikely scenario, Bears fans. But Terrell Owens—”T.O.”—wants to play for the Bears. While he’s going to be a Hall of Famer someday, his best years are long behind him. He turns 40 in December. Heck, he hasn’t even played an NFL game since December 12, 2010. Yet to me, his comments about Trestman... Read more »

Chicago Bears interested in JaMarcus Russell?

Chicago Bears interested in JaMarcus Russell?
Arguably the biggest draft bust since Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russell is attempting a comeback after being out of the league since the end of the 2009 season. His weight reportedly ballooned to over 300 pounds, but he has been slimming down, and, according to Tony Pauline of Draft Insider, the Bears are rumored to be interested... Read more »

Chicago Bears bring back quarterback Josh McCown on a one-year deal
Bears announced on Friday that veteran QB Josh McCown (33) would return to the team in 2013. In terms of realistic options, McCown had been third on our list among current free agents to backup Cutler after Jason Campbell left for Cleveland behind Rex Grossman, who will likely re-sign in Washington, and Vince Young, who...
