Henry Melton (69) sacks Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo (9) in the first quarter at Cowboys Stadium on October 1, 2012.

With about a month and a half left before the NFL announces the teams for the 2013 Pro Bowl on December 26, the League released the current leading vote getters in three categories on Wednesday:

  • Top-10 overall Vote Getters
  • AFC Leading Vote Getters by Position
  • NFC Leading Vote Getters by Position

The NFL’s Pro Bowl rosters are based on the consensus votes of fans, players and coaches—the only professional sports league to determine its all-star teams in such a fashion. Each group’s vote counts toward one-third of the final tally. NFL players and coaches will cast their votes on December 20-21.

As for where the Bears stand? Henry Melton currently leads the National Football Conference among defensive tackles with 98,957 votes. Tim Jennings currently leads the National Football Conference among cornerbacks with 116, 347 votes. Jennings’ vote tally is the third highest among NFC defensive position leaders.

According to the NFL’s director of NFC football communications, Randall Liu, cornerback Charles Tillman is the second leading vote getter among cornerbacks in the NFC. According to the Bears, Brandon Marshall is the second leading voter getter at WR in the NFC; Major Wright is the second leading vote getter at SS in the NFC.

All told, a total of 11 Chicago Bears’ players currently rank in the top-5 at their respective positions in the NFC in Pro Bowl voting.
