The Chicago Bears announced on Wednesday that they had reached an agreement with Tim Holt to become their offensive line coach, after promoting Mike Tice to offensive coordinator.
Holt spent three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an offensive assistant, his last season (2011) as the assistant offensive line coach. Holt spent 14 seasons coaching at the collegiate level before joining the Bucs.
During his tenure in Tampa Bay, Holt was a part of a team that sent two offensive lineman to the Pro Bowl—Donald Penn (2010) and Davin Joseph (2011).
“He’s the perfect fit,” Lovie Smith said. “I think he’s going to bring something to the room. He’s exactly what we’re looking for at the position.”
You can read the full press release with details on Holt here.
According to multiple reports, although Tice will have plenty to keep himself busy coordinating the offensive game-plan, he’s expected to work closely with Holt and retain a strong influence when it comes to the offensive line.
Given the fact that Holt’s credentials in the NFL are primarily as an assistant, it’s impossible to know just how well he’ll fit in Chicago but only time will tell.
You hear that, meatballs? I don’t want to hear any “this Holtman has gotta go” stuff! At least not yet.
