Although Mike Tice was scheduled to interview with the Raiders on Tuesday of this week, the Bears announce that he will remain as the team’s offensive coordinator in 2012.
The Raiders have moved on with their second round of interviews and informed Tice on Monday that he was no longer a candidate.
Tice is entering his 16th season as a coach in the NFL. He was promoted from the Bears’ offensive line coach to offensive coordinator shortly following the departure of Mike Martz this off-season.
The Bears have said they will hire a passing game coordinator to work under Tice’s direction in the up-coming season, although Tice will call plays on game-day. They have yet to fill that position. Confirmed candidates are not known.
Now that Tice’s future is known, we’ll see if things heat up with the passing game/QBs coach position as well as their offensive line coaching vacancy.
University of Pittsburgh offensive line coach Bob Bostad had been reported to be coming to the team late last week, although reports were widely refuted. It was always likely that no decision would be made with Tice’s future in question.
