Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith told the media following the Bears 37-13 victory over the Detroit Lions that Chris Williams would undergo immediate surgery on his injured wrist.
Smith did not set a timetable for William’s return, but noted he would be out for a while.
"Injury-wise if there's a negative, something that's not positive about this game, Chris Williams had a wrist injury," Smith said. “ … I don't know exactly how long he'll be out, but he'll be down for a while."
But Chris is likely out for the season.
Without Williams in the lineup, a much improved offensive line is now unnervingly thin. Rookie tackle Gabe Carimi underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last week, postponing his return by likely at least two weeks.
Edwin Williams will likely see some snaps at left guard with the first team in practice this week, as the Bears prepare to face the 4-5 San Diego Chargers next Sunday.
