LAKE FOREST, IL – Chicago Bears WR Devin Hester was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after recording 142 return yards – including setting an NFL record with his 11th career punt return touchdown – in Week 4 versus Carolina.
Hester’s touchdown, a 69-yarder, came on his 182nd career punt return breaking a tie with Eric Metcalf (10 punt return touchdowns in 351 returns) for the NFL record. The University of Miami (FL) product also had a 73-yard kickoff return versus the Panthers which set up the Bears fi rst offensive touchdown of the contest.
It was the 10th Special Teams Player of the Week award for Hester and the second Player of the Week honor for the Bears this season after LB Brian Urlacher won NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 1 versus Atlanta.
Hester joins Jerry Rice (13), Barry Sanders (11), Emmitt Smith (10), LaDainian Tomlinson (11), John Carney (13), Jason Hanson (11) and Adam Vinatieri (13) as the only non-QBs to win 10 Player of the Week Awards.
