LAKE FOREST, IL – Bears LB Brian Urlacher has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after recording 10 tackles, one tackle for a loss, one interception and returning a fumble 12 yards for a touchdown in Chicago’s 30-12 Week 1 victory over the Atlanta Falcons.
The fumble return touchdown marked the fourth time in Urlacher’s career that he found the end zone. It was the ﬁrst touchdown for Urlacher since an 85-yard interception return on December 23, 2007 versus Green Bay. It was the ﬁrst fumble return touchdown for Urlacher since a 90-yarder at Atlanta on October 7, 2001. His other touchdown came on a 27yard reception at Washington on December 23, 2001.
Urlacher’s interception was the 19th of his career, third most in franchise history among linebackers. He has recorded an interception in nine of his 12 NFL seasons. Since joining the NFL in 2000, Urlacher’s 19 interceptions are fourth most among NFL linebackers.
This is Urlacher’s six Defensive Player of the Week Award, tied for the most in franchise history with Pro Football Hall of Famer DE Richard Dent.
