Bears Linebacker Brian Urlacher Mourns the Death of his Mother

Sadly, Chicago Bears middle linebacker Brian Urlacher’s mother unexpectedly passed away in her Arizona home on Monday. Lavoyda Leonard was just 51-years old. Natural causes are suspected.

Just 16-years old when she gave birth to Brian, Lavoyda had to work several jobs just to keep her family afloat. Brian often credited his mother with his success, and called his step-dad his role model while growing up. “My mom is my heart,” Urlacher told ESPN in 2002.

Brian issued this statement through the team on Wednesday: "My first priority right now is to be with my family as we mourn her loss and make the arrangements to lay her to rest. This is a very difficult and emotional time for us and I sincerely ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you."

Certainly, our thoughts and prayers are with Brian during this difficult time.
