Thievery Corporation performed their first of two shows in Chicago Wednesday night in front of a full house at House of Blues.
A Thievery Corporation performance is more than merely a concert - it's a celebration of life through music.
Founding members Eric Hilton and Rob Garza, along with their usual live musical entourage, delivered a high energy 1 hour and 45 minute set, catering to long time fans while creating new ones in the process.
Remixed cuts from the 2018 release Treasures of the Temple, like "History" and "Road Block," played well Wednesday along with fan favorites including "Culture of Fear," "Radio Retaliation" and "Lebanese Blonde."
Chicago fans also got the added bonus of seeing local music fixture Frank Orrall on percussion and occasional vocal. Orrall has been with Thievery Corporation for several years in addition to his role as Poi Dog Pondering bandleader.
Originally scheduled to open up as the support act, Julian Markey was forced to cancel due to a family illness. Eight-piece Houston, Texas act The Suffers stepped in, winning the crowd over by way of their spin on "Gulf Coast soul."
