This is your guide to catching the best live music in Chicago this weekend both in the city and throughout the suburbs... This weekend, choose from blues or nineties alt rock as George Thorogood, Taj Mahal, Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Guided by Voices perform throughout the city.  Plus, an interesting mix of performers across the suburbs as Huey Lewis, Vanilla Ice, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd all swing through the area.  All of this plus much more...

In The City...

Mighty Mighty Bosstones (7:30PM Friday at Metro. $29, All Ages) - We are the Union open.

Save the Clocktower and Paper Thick Walls (8:30PM Friday at Double Door. $5-10, 21+) - .Ode and Twinray open.

Taj Mahal Trio (7PM Friday at Old Town School of Folk Music. $41-45, All Ages)

Guided by Voices (9PM Saturday at Metro. $35, 18+) - Radar Eyes opens.

RZA (8:30PM Saturday at Double Door. 21+, SOLD OUT) - Fess Grandiose, Free Ajents, Aerias, and Anti Crew open.

George Thorogood & The Destroyers (8:30PM Sunday at House of Blues. $55, 17+) - Tom Hambridge opens.

Huey Lewis & The News and Joe Cocker (7PM Friday at Ravinia in Highland Park. $38-80, All Ages)

The Steepwater Band and The Kinsey Report (9PM Friday at Fitzgerald's in Berwyn. $15, 21+) - Paige DeChausse and Nick Boettcher also perform.

Vanilla Ice (8PM Friday at Tailgater's in Bolingbrook. 21+, SOLD OUT)

Kenny Wayne Shepherd (9PM Saturday at Viper Alley in Lincolnshire. $35-75, 21+) - Sam Llanas opens.

Train (Two shows at 7PM on Saturday and Sunday at Ravinia in Highland Park.  All Ages, both shows are SOLD OUT) - Matt Kearney and Andy Grammer open.

Soulfly (6:30PM Sunday at Moejoe's in Joliet. $20, All Ages) - Beneath the Hollow, Knifed At Gunpoint, Levels of Anger, Dark Passenger, Ruptura and Primal Lore open.

    Jim Ryan has written about music in print and online for a variety of Chicagoland publications for over fifteen years. In addition to duties filling in as Traffic Anchor on CLTV or in the helicopter on NBC 5, you can also catch him Sunday nights at 6PM central as host of "The Rock N' Roll Radio Program" on AM 1420 WIMS and AM 1060 WHFB (streaming at and via the TuneIn Radio app for the smart phone or tablet). Jim has also worked locally for WXRT-FM, lives within walking distance of the Metro and is an avid White Sox and Blackhawks fan whose first live concert experience came at Comiskey Park in 1984 during the Jacksons' "Victory" tour.
