Twelve years ago, on the Wednesday before Christmas, I remember getting a call from my girlfriend saying, "Toys 'R' Us is having a huge Black Friday sale and they're opening at 6am - can you believe it? Let's go!"
There was no hesitation, I thought it was such a fun adventure. We could barely see each other as we pushed our overflowing carts down the isles by 6:15 in the morning. While we waited in line with the other crack of dawn shoppers, we couldn't help but giggle at how ridiculous it was that we were out shopping that early.
The next year I woke up my husband and we went to the Huntley Outlet mall and met my sister and brother-in-law. It was better than any party I've ever attended. We ran around like kids and ended up having the most fun in a cooking store. They had paper shopping bags and their hook was for $15, you could keep whatever you could fit into the bag without it overflowing. Trying to rearrange our bags and getting the entire store to participate in hunts for certain items was hilarious. We made multiple friends and still laugh about our treasures to this day.
After those two years of cheap entertainment, I was hooked. Nothing has really lived up to those early years, however, I've learned a ton about the shopping experience to ensure success. Most people think I'm crazy for still going out on Black Friday, but I've gotten it down to a science and it's one of my favorite times of the year. So at the request of my stay-in-bed girlfriends, I'm going to share some of my tried and true secrets. The Black Friday Survival Series will be as follows:
- Friday (November 16th): Yes, you can enjoy the madness
- Monday (November 19th): 5 Things NOT to buy on Black Friday
- Tuesday (November 20th): Best Deals out there
- Wednesday (November 21st): Looking forward to Cyber Monday
I would love to hear from others that have great tips since there's always something to learn. I don't care who you are or how much you earn, everybody like to get a deal!
