How long have I been missing this "Elf on a Shelf" trend? My nine-year old has been coming home every day raving about the Elf on a Shelf and how wonderful and magical the Elf is - WHY DON'T WE HAVE AN ELF ON THE SHELF!!!
I finally broke down and got the Elf the other day. It's not much more than a dollar store trinket, but with a $30 price tag.
The money isn't the drawback. The biggest downfall of owning an elf is that it's mischievous and active. My daughter comes home from school and sports activities talking about how cool her friend's elves are and all the big bold moves they make.
Talk about peer pressure at it's finest. Every day my daughter is waiting for big things from her elf. My original understanding of the Elf on a Shelf is that they just hide on a different shelf every day. But now I'm hearing about an elf that draws mustache's on all the pictures in the house. An elf that travels to other people's houses when there is a sleepover. An elf that makes cookies and take a bite out of each one. An elf that turns furniture upside down. The deeds I hear about are endless.
Had I known how many strings came with the elf, I'm not sure we would have incorporated the elf into our Christmas traditions. Does anybody have a lazy elf out there? I need some evidence for my daughter that some elves are just tired from all that toy making. Curse that Elf on the Elfin' Shelf.
