The Perfect Season

What do all these fellas have in common?

Charlie Tilson, Yoan Moncada, Michael Kopech, Luis Alexander Basabe, Victor Diaz, Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez, Dane Dunning, Luis Robert, Eloy Jimenez, Dylan Cease, Yeyson Yrizarri, Blake Rutherford, Ian Clarkin, Ryan Cordell, Casey Gillaspie, Ryan Burr, Thyago Vieira, Matt Rose, Bryant Flete, Tito Polo, and Ti’Quan Forbes.

They were all acquired by Rick Hahn and the Chicago White Sox to rebuild the club from bottom to top. So, what if everything works out perfectly? What if the White Sox, like the Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros before them, see the destruction-reconstruction-celebration model manifest itself in a World Championship? What would have to happen? How could everything go just right?

The 2020 Chicago White Sox

Jose Abreu continues his consistent production to begin a new three year contract extension (his actual deal runs out after the 2019 season).

.292 AVG, .360 OBP, 31 HR, 106 RBI

Yoan Moncada becomes the player his former #1 MLB prospect rank forecasted he would be.

.270 AVG, .370 OBP, 25 HR, 84 RBI, 70 XBH

After a 76-86 2018 record, the White Sox see the writing on the wall. They need one more stud. They acquire free agent SS Manny Machado for 8 years and $290 million.

.266 AVG, .333 OBP, 32 HR, 99 RBI, Gold Glove award winner

Jake Burger overcomes his pedestrian 2017 minor league numbers to become something just short of Joe Crede.

.242 AVG, .339 OBP, 19 HR, 68 RBI

Zack Collins hits bombs, walks a lot, and strikes out a lot.  Two out of three ain't bad.

.230 AVG, .376 OBP, 28 HR, 78 RBI

Eloy Jimenez makes everyone forget about Jose Quintana.

.280 AVG, .345 OBP, 29 HR, 89 RBI

Luis Robert begins his major league career in 2020 with a World Series champion club.

.239 AVG, .319 OBP, 19 HR, 57 RBI

Avisail Garcia proves 2017 was no fluke, and two weeks after the White Sox extend Jose Abreu, they sign Avi to a three year extension as well.

.299 AVG, .355 OBP, 21 HR, 79 RBI

Nicky Delmonico becomes the left handed bat that the Sox wanted when they signed Adam Dunn and Adam LaRoche (I’m sorry to upset your stomachs with those two).

.275 AVG, .348 OBP, 24 HR, 77 RBI

The youngest, scariest, most devastating starting rotation in Major League Baseball takes shape in 2020.

Michael Kopech      18-7 2.22 ERA 256 Ks 193 IP

Carlos Rodon           16-5 3.40 ERA 241 Ks 179 IP

Lucas Giolito           16-8 3.09 ERA 218 Ks 199 IP

Alec Hansen             15-8 3.31 ERA 239 Ks 177 IP

Reynaldo Lopez      14-9 3.75 ERA 197 Ks 196 IP

Set up men Carson Fulmer and Dylan Cease lead the major leagues in holds for closer Zack Burdi, who saves 40 games in 42 attempts.

Ricky Renteria wins his first Manager of the Year award shortly after the White Sox sweep the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2020 World Series.

Perfect enough for you, Sox fans?
