Chef Art Smith, Jesus Salgueiro and family make history in Chicago

On Tuesday, June 30, history was made when the first baptism with same sex parents was blessed by Pope Francis and performed at Holy Name Cathedral!  Beloved Chef Art Smith and Jesus Salgueiro's four beautiful children were baptized into the Catholic faith by Monsignor Dan Mayall.

The love-filled ceremony included The Chicago Children's Choir Alum singing gospel music. Godparents and friends joined the couple and their family in the blessings.

Each of Art and Jesus' four children-- Brando Arthur, Angel Jesus, Zumy Iris and Zuky Francis Smith-Salgueiro received engraved plaques with apostolic blessings from Pope Francis!

At the end of the ceremony, Chef Art's voice cracked as he thanked those in attendance. A reception followed at Table 52 for family and friends.

God bless them all and what a privilege to witness this historic moment!
