My Christmas gratitude column for 2014

What I wish for Christmas, I've already received.  Thank you so much Santa!  There's nothing more important than the health of your loved ones.  2014 has been a tough year for my husband Chuck.  I consider it over now with his latest surgery, a triple hernia operation.  So, as I sit and stare at our beautiful tree, overloaded with memory-inducing ornaments, I think of all of the other things I'm also grateful for.

I'm thankful to have a beautiful mother-in-law who's 94 and still going strong.  I love my sister and brother-in-law and all of their darling kids and grand-kids--who considerably lessen the pain of being an only child.  I feel lucky to have two crazy-ass Chihuahuas who make us laugh (and sometimes cry) 24/7, 365.

I love living in this gorgeous city that seems to get more beautiful with each passing day.  It's never more festive than at Christmas, my favorite time of the year.  Macy's State Street windows and the entire store makes me giddy with holiday excitement.  Christkindlmarket and Lincoln Park Zoo's Zoolights are both wonders.  I love the small shops, like Mary Mary Boutique, that go out of their way to compete with the big guys spreading Yule Tide cheer and succeed!

I'm grateful for my friends, who I don't get to see enough of, but thankfully are always there.  I love being busy with my Chicago Tribune column, that I hope you're all enjoying every Sunday.

I'm grateful to be able to write this column along with my blog.  I'm happy to have outlets for my award-winning internet show on both Watch312 and now my own YouTube channel, Candid Candace TV.   And I'm deeply grateful for all the encouraging messages that tell me you like what I do.  (Sally Field anyone?)

I love living in a building with darling doormen and a heated garage....I know it doesn't sound like such a big thing, but after years of shoveling everything out from under mounds of snow in Old Town, believe me, this IS a big deal.

Most of all, I'm happy to just be here and experience the wonders, joys, ups and downs of everyday life.  Feeling blessed is an understatement.

I hope your holidays are happy, healthy and memory-making, too.

Love always,

"Candid" Candace Jordan
