Award winning playwright Jackie Taylor brings Curtis Mayfield's life to the stage

Don't miss Jackie Taylor's  "It's All-Right  to Have a Good Time", the life story of Curtis Mayfield, at the Black Ensemble Theater Cultural Center beginning in previews on September 14.  Written by Taylor and directed by Taylor and Daryl Brooks the production will begin on September 22nd and stars the lead singer of the Impressions, Reggie Torian, in his acting debut.

This tribute to Chicago’s own musical legend, Curtis Mayfield, is the story of a man who is equally celebrated as a master singer, song writer and record producer.  Mayfield’s timeless music is known and celebrated all over the world, and he's the winner of the Grammy Legend Award (1994), the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award (1995) and a double inductee into both The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1991, 1999) and the Grammy Hall of Fame. From the music of The Impressions like “Gypsy Woman,” “I’m So Proud,” “Choice of Colors” to movie hits like “Super Fly,” The Curtis Mayfield Story will bring to vibrant, theatrical life the rare musical genius that was Curtis Mayfield.

Jackie Taylor has received numerous awards for her works, including a Special Jeff Award for her cultural contributions, a League of Chicago Theater Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the Top 10 in the Arts in the Chicago Sun-Times’ 100 Most Powerful Women; “Producer of the Year” by the National Black Theater Festival, one of “The People of the Year” by Screen Magazine;” and a “Phenomenal Women Award” by Expo for Today’s Black Women.

Taylor has written and produced more than 100 plays and musical biographies, including All In Love Is Fair, The Other Cinderella, I Am Who I Am (The Story of Teddy Pendergrass) Don’t Make Me Over (The Story of Dionne Warwick) Don’t Shed A Tear (The Billie Holiday Story) Somebody Say Amen, At Last:  A Tribute To Etta James, Precious Lord Take My Hand and The Jackie Wilson Story, among a myriad of other acclaimed productions.  I'm sure "It's All-Right to Have a Good Time" will add another notch to her award-winning belt.  Not to be missed!
