Kerry and Sarah Wood Host Star Studded "Woody's Wiffle Ball Classic" in Wrigley

Former Cubs pitcher, Kerry Wood, and wife Sarah hosted their first annual Woody's Wiffle Ball Classic tournament in Wrigley Field on Saturday, August 10,  benefitting the Wood Family Foundation.  Celebrities, sports stars and media personalities participated in this afternoon sporting event that brought Woody back to the mound.  It also featured a Home Run Derby, corporate team games, a celeb-filled Wiffle for a Diffle game and so much more!  Bill Murray, Matthew Perry and Jenny McCarthy were honorary captains.

Following the national anthem, sung by Wayne Messmer, the day began with the corporate games which included 16 teams.   Then Wrigley turned up the lights and music for the Home Run Derby pitched by Kerry (yes, he returned to pitch in Wrigley!).  The crowd was so appreciative to see him again and it was a very warm and fuzzy feeling to be there and feel the love.

We got to Wrigley early for the Red Carpet that included Kevin Farley, Sarah Colonna (Chelsea Lately), Derrek Lee (former Chicago Cub), Ed Swiderski (Bachelorette), Danni Allen (current Biggest Loser winner), Joel Murray (Mad Men),  Adam Rodriguez (CSI Miami), CM Punk (WWE wrestler), Josh Charles (The Good Wife), Ron Harper (former Chicago Bull), Lisa Guerreo (Sunset Beach), Ryan Baker (CBS Chicago), Ryan Chiaverini (Windy City LIVE), Roe Conn and Richard Roeper (Roe and Roeper) and soooooo many more!

After the Red Carpet, I went onto the field for the Celebrity "Wiffle for a Diffle" match.  This celeb-packed event included the one and only Bill Murray, who was the honorary captain of the Red Team, and who took his job VERY seriously!  Jenny McCarthy was there and I still think she and Windy City LIVE's Ryan Chiaverini would be a match made in heaven.  George Wendt (I love Norm!) was there cheering his team on from the sidelines and Matthew Perry flew in from LA just to participate which I thought was so nice.  He was adorable and even smiled for my little pocket camera.  After the dust settled, Sarah's Blue Team won a close game 13-12.  That's what Kerry got for striking out his wife!

The event benefitted the Wood Family Foundation which was founded in 2011 by Kerry and Sarah.  They raise funds for children's programs that include back-to-school and coat drives, summer baseball camps and so much more.  (For more info on this wonderful organization, please click here.)
