Woody's Wiffle Ball Classic: Former Chicago Cub Kerry Wood teams up with Bill Murray for 1st annual event in Wrigley Field

Who wouldn't like to see retired Chicago Cub Kerry Wood pitch again in Wrigley Field!?  Well, now you can!  Woody will will be playing another type of ball game on Saturday, August 10....wiffle ball!!!   Kerry, along with the Wood Family Foundation, announces a ‘call for teams’ for the 1st Annual Woody’s Wiffle Ball ClassicSixteen corporate teams will compete on four fields (Fenway, Yankee, Wrigley, Field of Dreams) complete with backdrops and bleachers in an all-day double elimination tournament to become Chicago’s Wiffle Ball Classic Champion.   Each team will be guaranteed at last two games and require up to 10 roster players in company logo uniforms.  The day will also be filled with lots of fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Following the championship game, Wrigley will turn up the lights and music for the “Celebrity Home Run Derby,” pitched by Kerry himself, and culminate with the “Wiffle for a Diffle” celeb game in which some of Chicago’s favorite celebrities, including Bill Murray,  will showcase their batting and fielding skills.  As the event comes to a close, all teams, sponsors and celebrities will head to John Barleycorn in Wrigleyville for a post-game party and awards ceremony.

“We are so excited to be hosting an event unique to Chicago. Who doesn’t love wiffle ball? And being able to play wiffle ball on Wrigley Field? There's going to be nothing like it!  We really wanted to find something to replace the excitement generated from our yearly “StrikeZone” bowling event and with the evening celebrity home run derby and celebrity wiffle ball game to cap off the day, this will definitely be our new, must-attend event,”said Wood.

The Wood Family Foundation (WFF) is a non-profit 501c3 organization that was founded in June 2011 by Kerry and his wife Sarah. The WFF works to improve the lives of children in Chicago by raising funds for children’s programs. The WFF acts as an advocate for children in the Chicago community, inspiring others to join them in their mission of giving children the resources they need to succeed.
