Every year, nearly 18,000 people enjoy two whole blocks of food, music and fun at the World Largest Block Party and this year will be no different! For the first time ever, Gretchen Wilson and Phil Vassar will be co-headlining the first ever country line-up on Saturday night for this party with a purpose. Proceeds benefit Old St. Patrick's Church and the Center for Social Concerns on the Old St. Pat's Campus which houses the following outreach programs: Horizons for Youth; Career Transitions Center of Chicago and the Global Alliance for Africa.
The event begins on Friday, June 28th and runs through Saturday, June 29th from 5:30 to 10:30 pm. Friday's line-up includes Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, Punch Brothers, The Shams Band, No Love for Linus and Vintage Blue. Saturday's line-up includes Gretchen Wilson, Phil Vassar, Michele McGuire, Out for Hours and South of 80.
Every year, local celebs lend their time and beer-serving skills for this wonderful event. This year participants include WCIU's Aly Bockler, ABC 7's Jason Knowles, NBC 5's Stefan Holt, WGN's Dina Bair, NBC 5's Charlie Wojciechowski, designer Borris Powell, AM 560's Amy Jacobson, ABC 7's John Garcia, NBC's Natalie Martinez, WGN/CLTV's Duffy Adkins, 24/7 Chicago's Jeff Conway, NBC 5's Daniella Guzman and author Dr. Ian Smith.
