In a recent article in The Guardian, throat cancer victim/survivor actor Michael Douglas was asked if he regretted his years of smoking and drinking. He replied, "No. Because without wanting to get too specific, this particular cancer is caused by HPV [human papillomavirus], which actually comes about from cunnilingus." REALLY? Douglas, the husband of Catherine Zeta Jones, continued: "I did worry if the stress caused by my son's incarceration didn't help trigger it. But yeah, it's a sexually transmitted disease that causes cancer. And if you have it, cunnilingus is also the best cure for it." (He must have women standing in line!)
Michael was diagnosed with throat cancer in August, 2010, and received extensive chemotherapy. The treatment worked and Douglas is now more than two years cancer-free. He has check-ups every six months and said, "with this kind of cancer, 95% of the time it doesn't come back".
Wow, Michael, waayyyyyyy too much information! I appreciate the fact that you're trying to keep others from going down the same path (no pun intended) but I think this sort of info seems pretty personal. Am I wrong? Some of my Facebook friends have different opinions, see below.
I wish him continued good health and maybe his openness will help save lives. In this case, I'll just shut up and let you see what my friends had to say!

Geoff wrote: "Actually it's good info. I just learned a few years ago about human papilloma viruses that grow in mucous membranes of the mouth, throat, or vagina. It is the same reason Gynecologists offer Pap smears - to detect that virus which also causes cervical cancer. It is rare, but it does occur that the virus can spread to a person giving cunnilingus and that person develop throat, mouth or jaw cancer. It is however, like it was with Douglas, generally very treatable and probably gave cause for his lovely wife to get a thorough check-up!"

Men need to realize they need to take precautions and responsibility and talk to their partners because they aren't just carriers, they are at risk too."
