A Love Letter to Chicago Now (plus CN Holiday Party pics!)

In 2009, when Chicago Now was created, who could’ve imagined how big and how popular this blogging platform would become?   Bill Adee, Tribune Digital Guru, handpicked five local bloggers to begin this journey that now includes more than 400 active blogs.  Collectively, these bloggers get millions of page views each month and dozens of them are published authors.  Besides ChicagoTribune.com, ChicagoNow is the largest Tribune website and one of the biggest blogging platforms in the country.  It’s larger than WGN Radio, WGN News, RedEye AND Chicago Magazine!

To become a part of this august group, you have to pass muster of the beloved CN Community Manager Jimmy Greenfield, whose discerning eye has kept this group diverse, inspired, timely and much read.  His constant encouragement is more like a coach than a website manager and he makes sure we're always on top of breaking news as well as important social media updates.

But, for me, the best part of Chicago Now is getting to know this incredible group of bloggers.  Their interests are far ranging and they are all forces to be reckoned with.  They can make you laugh till your sides hurt (like Karen Schwartz Alpert whose must-read blog is Baby SideBurns), make you cry (like Lyletta Robinson relating her job search efforts on “I Hate My Developer”) or make you want to dance and sing (like “Becoming Nikki Lynette”).  They ALL make you think.  And besides being brilliant writers, they are wonderful human beings, too.  Curtis Shaw Flagg ("As I See It") collected books for the less fortunate at our recent holiday party and Andy Frye , ("My Sports Complex") donated his kidney to a friend on dialysis.

Chicago Now bloggers are a constant source of amazement and inspiration.  If you are not following this site, do yourself a favor, and check it out.   I promise you, their stories will change you.....

Congrats and much love to my CN friends!

(I hope you enjoy these fun party pics from our annual holiday party, this year at the hot venue Deuces Diamond ClubDJ Mike's karaoke was a big hit with this group! Thanks for hosting us DDC!)
