What did Smashing Pumpkin's Billy Corgan do at PAWS Chicago Fur Ball that raised $90K?

Rocker Billy Corgan made the 11th annual PAWS Chicago Fur Ball one that its sell-out crowd won't soon forget!  He thrilled the attendees, first by BEING there, and secondly, by offering the top live auction prizes of the night!

His initial donation was a private acoustic performance for four at his 1930's style Chinese tea house, Madame ZuZu's, in the Ravinia neighborhood of Highland Park, that included three songs!  This sold for $30K.

And being an animal lover with his own PAWS pets at home, he immediately offered two more packages to two lucky under-bidders bringing the total amount of  his live auction donation to $90K!!  To sweeten the deal at ZuZu's, he added, "You can ask me anything.  I'm probably the only person on the planet who has dated both Jessica Simpson and Courtney Love!"

Longtime PAWS Board members, Bonnie and Jim Spurlock were much deserving Honorary Co-Chairs.  The event was chaired by Joanna Mallers, Rita Moore, Lauren and Sandy Walfish.  The 2012 PAWS Chicago Visionary Award recipient went to the David Duffield Family and Maddie's Fund (named in honor of their miniature Schnauzer Maddie).  Maddie's Fund has donated more than $300 million toward its mission of building a No Kill nation.

More than 750 guests attended this black-tie event at the Drake Hotel, many with their equally stylish pups in tow.  Lucky dogs enjoyed spa treatments from Paradise 4 Paws that included paws-icures and massages.  There was even a pet communicator, Alicia Halloran,  who gave readings onsite.  And artist Rosemary Fanti was on hand to capture the memories.

  • It's too bad Billy didn't bring any of his wrestling friends to shake the place up a bit.
