Leroy Neiman was a favorite artist of Hef and Playboy. He was a frequent guest at the Mansion in Chicago when I lived there as a Bunny. With his handlebar mustache, he was hard to miss......After hearing of his recent passing at 91, it made me stop and think how lucky I was to have known so many actors, notables and artists like him who passed through the Mansion in its heyday, and theirs.
Chuck and I spent many summers in St. Tropez at the Byblos Hotel, one of the best in the world, and one season there he was....casually smoking his signature cigar on the terrace. We exchanged pleasantries before my friends and I moved on to dinner....he remained smoking on the patio with a blissful smile. He was a bit of a rogue but I adored him.
A dear friend of mine recently sold a large painting of his of the paddock at Longchamps for well over $200,000.
He will be missed...
