Actor Martin Sheen came to town recently to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 47th Chicago International Film Festival's Summer Gala. He was accompanied by son, Emilio Estevez, who wrote, directed and co-starred in their latest film , "The Way." Film Fest Founder and Artistic Director, Michael Kutza, presented the Silver Hugo to Sheen prior to the screening who quipped, "After all this fuss, I hope you like the film!" Governor Pat Quinn also proclaimed August 19th, "Martin Sheen and Emelio Estevez Day in Chicago."
Emcee Bill Kurtis joked to the Governor, "Wouldn't this place (the theatre) make a great casino?" The crowd loved it!
During Sheen and Estevez' media line interviews, Martin said, "Chicago is not only a city of Big Shoulders but also of Big Hearts."
Congrats to Martin on this long overdue honor and to both father and son for this wonderful, feel good film, "The Way."
