Chelsea Handler's Private Brunch at Mercat Introduces Belvedere Bloody Mary Vodka

Irreverent funny girl, Chelsea Handler, is in town as part of her "Lies Chelsea Handler Told Me Tour" which will be tonight only at 8 PM at the Chicago Theatre.  But before her night begins, she hosted a private brunch today at Mercat, 638 S. Michigan, to celebrate the launch of Belevdere Bloody Mary vodka (she's a fan and spokesperson).

The brunch celebration was hosted by Belevdere Vodka and Bon Appetit Magazine and there were lots of familiar faces in the crowd including tons of chefs like Bill Kim (with lovely wife Yvonne), Publican's Brian Huston, Bristol's Chris Pandel, Jimmy Bannos, Spiaggia's Tony Montalano, Big Star's Justin Large, Boka Group's Rob Katz and Takashi Yagihashi among many others.  Also seen on the scene were Amanda Puck, Micah Materre, Kimberly Burt, Dan Uslan, Korey Karnes, John Carroll, Susanna Negovan, John Ross, Sheila O'Grady and Amanda Rockman to name a few.

The delicious brunch, created by Mercat Chef Jose Garces, began with sopa de chayote (smoked chayote squash soup, rosemary-chicken sausage and aged goat cheese), langosta con ostra (butter poached Maine lobster, champagne-oyster cream, osetra caviar, coddled eggs and slicked baguette) and costillas a la riojana (slow cooked short ribs, heirloom potato confit and Manchego espuma).  The dessert, patissos d'avellana, consisted of hazelnut-mascarpone gateaux, poached apricots, dulce de leche and salted hazelnuts. How in the world does Chelsea stay so thin???!!!

Master mixologist and Head Spirit Creator for Belvedere, Claire Smith (shown in photo above with Chelsea and me), created the new Belvedere Bloody Mary, which was delicious by the way!  My personal favorite blend was the Belvedere Mary Me Honey which consisted of Belvedere Bloody Mary, grapefruit juice, honey, lemon juice and orange bitters.

Her performance tonight will include "Chelsea Lately" regulars/friends Brad Wollack, Josh Wolf and Heather McDonald.  This tour follows her last smash tour "Chelsea, Chelsea Bang, Bang" which was extended 3 times, drew more than 250,000 fans in 44 markets and grossed more than $16 million.

The wonderful goody bag included a small bottle of Belvedere Bloody Mary, Bon Appetit Magazine and a signed copy of Chelsea's latest book, her fourth, called "Lies That Chelsea Handler Told Me".  The book is a compilation of ridiculous lies Chelsea has told her family and friends over the years and includes chapters written by each of her sidekicks, Heather McDonald, Josh Wolf and Brad Wollack.

I never miss "Chelsea Lately" and was thrilled to meet this hysterically funny lady in person.  When a principal of Bon Appetit Magazine was speaking, she shouted out, "Shut up Charles"!

Gotta love her!

(When I checked the website just now for tickets for tonight's show, there were 22 left!!!)
