Recently, a who's who of Chicago donned pink for the "Pink is the New Back" party hosted by Sonya Jackson, founder of "Mantra for Good", at the beautiful Park Hyatt.  This event highlighted and honored 14 inspiring women who are heroes in the fight against breast cancer: Bright Pink's Lindsay Avner, Carrie Birkel, Shannon Fairlamb, Cindy Geoghegan, NBC Chicago's Dr. Sandy Goldberg, Ann Jackson, Mimi Horowitz, Teresa Lee, Kelly McCluskey, Irma Norris, Caren Helene Rudman, Kristi Stempien, Lisa Weier and author Suzanne Zaccone.  A crowd of 200 listened to Chicago's hottest spoken word poets, Quraysh Ali Lansana and Kevin Coval, as they commanded the room with a poem that touched on breast cancer and its impact.

The dynamic "Pink is the New Black" committee included Katie McClenaghan, Nicole Lee, JR Kerr, Kristen Stone, Lynne Bredfeldt, DaVida Rice, Amanda Samuels, actress Regina Taylor, Mick Masuka and Maurice Wills.  The event also included a one--of-a-kind photo installation of the heroes by well known Chicago photographer, Lori Allen of Lori Allen Photog Designs, that will be turned into a book with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the Y-Me National Breast Cancer organization.  Guests enjoyed delicious hors d'oeuvres by Executive Chef Ryan LaRoche of NoMi.  Esteemed guests in attendence included Governor Pat Quinn, Kevin Eubanks (formerly of The Tonight Show on NBC), Lester and Maureen Lampert, artist Rosemary Fanti, style guru Ryan Beshel, Julie Darling, Ken Norgan, Rita Canning, Alex Dimitrief, Ann and John Jackson, Ralph Hughes, Rachel Schwanz, Agnes Miles (Love, Lulu Mae), Jason McClenaghan, Lesley Prizant Goodman, Frances Renk, Julee White, Maria Noll, Catie Keogh, Colleen Keogh, Rhonda Brown, Christopher Conway, Tim Smithe, Elizabeth Brodsky, Scott Bobek, Fabrice Calmels and Kathleen Henson among many others.

This inaugural event raised over $35,000 for the Y-Me National Breast Cancer organization.  Congrats to Sonya and her tireless committee for their efforts to make this world a better place!!!  (www.y-me.org)  Photos by Mila Samokhina and KayeKaye Photography.
