With over 500 guests and 200 pets, PAWS 8th annual Beach Party, "All Paws on Deck", broke every record from years past. Event co-chairs, Bonnie Spurlock and Christine Mallul, along with their dedicated and hard working committee, raised over $220K which is $50K more than last year! Even Governor Quinn participated and signed two important pets' rights bills into law during the Beach Party! The first law will require the addition of a bitter flavor to antifreeze and engine coolant sold in Illinois which is meant to prevent poisonings. The sweet flavor attracts pets and children and last year alone, 90,000 animals were poisoned as a result of this. The other bill will prohibit the private ownership of primates as pets, spurred by the tragic accident in Connecticut where a pet chimp attacked a friend of the owner.
The Castaways at North Avenue Beach was the perfect venue for this annual event and their elaborate beach buffet, complete with a Chicago Hot Dog Cart, included delicious fare with something for everyone. Lisa Dent of US99.5 emceed and the live music was provided by the Underwater People. The drink of the night, "PAWS on the Beach", kept everyone fueled for fun! Chicago's top models greeted guests with leis and the live and silent auctions raised over 50% more than last year's.
Mark your calendars now for next year's event. You don't want to be the only person in town who wasn't there, do you? :-) www.PawsChicago.org
