Last Chance to Attend the Chicago Dancing Festival!

The 2008 Chicago Dancing Festival in Millenium Park.

The 3rd annual Chicago Dancing Festival will culminate Saturday night with a free "Celebration of Dance" in the Pritzker Pavilion in Millenium Park beginning at 7:30 PM.  The event began on Tuesday night and continued throughout the week presenting 16 of the top dance companies in the country performing.  All of the events are free to the public and, according to founders/directors Jay Franke and Lar Lubovitch, they will always be.  The incredible Saturday night lineup includes the Chicago Human Rhythm Project, the Houston Ballet, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, Dayton Contemporary Dance Company and Les Ballets Grandiva which is a campy all-male comedy troupe who will be performing "Star Spangled Ballerinia" set to the music of John Phillip Sousa. The after-party will be at the Palmer House in Potter's Lounge...I hope to see you there!

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will be performing Saturday night along with 6 other companies.

  • A couple of quick updates: For Saturday "Celebration of Dance", the seating area will open at 5:30 PM. Prior to that, guests may line up on the east walkway, located to the right of the Pavilion seats, as you face the stage. If find yourself in the park during the afternoon, check out one of DanceWorks Chicago's performances of Twyla Tharp's "The One Hundreds: 1-50" at 12:30 at Wrigley Square, 3pm at the "Bean" and 5pm on the Pavilion lawn. Also note: Alvin Ailey's solo work "Cry" will be performed by guest artist and former Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater principal dancer Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell (the full Ailey company is not performing). See you there!
