Cavalia Gallops into Chicago!

Founder and artistic director Normand Latourelle

Cavalia is a show unlike anything I've ever seen.  There are more than 100 two and four-legged artists that appear in this visually stunning and magical production that showcases the timeless bond between horses and humans.  The Big Top tents are themselves stars of this show with the stage being the size of a regulation NFL Football field!

The 35 artists, acrobats, dancers and riders come from all over the globe and all have one thing in common--their uncanny command of the horse.  My host, Steven Nowack, has seen the show 498 times and his enthusiasm last night was the same as if he were seeing the show for the first time.  This alone tells you all you need to know about Cavalia.  The spectacles are unending and unmatched and kept the audience cheering throughout the 2 hour and 20 minute production.  (There is a 25 minute intermission. )

Normand Latourelle, the founder and artistic director, was also instrumental in the creation of Cirque du Soleil and aspects of this show are seen in Cavalia---but only the creativity because this show is all about the evolution and love of the horse.  Make no mistake, they are the stars and happy to be so!  There are 13 different breeds of horses, including Arabians, Spanish Pure Breeds, Lusitanos, Quarter horses, Appaloosas and Paint horses from France, Canada, Spain and the United States.  They are all stallions and geldings.  Normand even transports 60-80 tons of dirt from show to show so the horses will be on a ground they are familiar with.

Opening night guests included Maria Pinto, Billy Dec, Carrie Lannon, Greg Hyder, Jim Smith, John Regas, Stella Foster, Judy and Howard Tullman, Marcus Riley, Paul Iacono, Kathy O'Malley, Dennis Minkle, Lynn and John McMahan, Hazel Barr and Diana Chavez.

The show last night was a 2000+ sell out crowd and they have already extended the run to August 2nd.  This is a must-see for young and old and anyone looking for a spectacular equestrian odyssey.  Tickets start at $45.50 and can be purchased online at or by calling 1-866-999-8111.
