Paying the NBA luxury tax for a winner- the truth behind the myth

Paying the NBA luxury tax for a winner- the truth behind the myth
I guess to the untrained eye, it makes sense that the team that spends the most money on players and pays the NBA luxury tax will have the best team. After all, the best players make the most money, so if your team spends the most money, they should have more good players, right? Wrong.... Read more »

Charles Barkley to be fired by TNT?

Charles Barkley to be fired by TNT?
A completely unreliable source has told Bullsville that NBA analyst Charles Barkley is about to be fired by TNT (that source is Don Ellis’ imagination). Of course I have heard nothing about Charles Barkley being fired by TNT, in fact they would be crazy to do so. While he may not be the best technical... Read more »

Bill Simmons- Memphis Grizzlies want Thibodeau, more BS on Thibs (pun intended)

Bill Simmons- Memphis Grizzlies want Thibodeau, more BS on Thibs (pun intended)
I’m a fan of Bill Simmons, he is fairly entertaining on ABC’s NBA pre-game show. But his obsession with Tom Thibodeau leaving the Bulls is getting old already. I’m not sure exactly when it started, but it was no later than December 13, 2013, when he wrote on his website: Most Interesting Subplot:¬†You mean, other... Read more »

2014 NBA Playoffs 1st round predictions

2014 NBA Playoffs 1st round predictions
As I type this, we are about 6 hours from the start of the NBA Playoffs- also known as my favorite time of year. The Bulls don’t start their postseason until Sunday evening, so I’ll have the complete series preview tomorrow morning. Today, I’ll look at the rest of the first-round series. EASTERN CONFERENCE (1)... Read more »

Game Blog Live: Chicago Bulls vs Memphis Grizzlies: 10/7/2013 Preseason Game #2

Let’s hope this works out, as long as the League Pass doesn’t screw me over because I’m too close to Memphis, I’ll be blogging live during tonight’s game. Hopefully get it started in the body of the article then we can get to comments if it gets that far. Thank you League Pass, at least... Read more »

Bulls Fail to Show Up in Memphis

Bulls Fail to Show Up in Memphis
Technically, the players went to the FedEx Forum, they dressed, and they went out onto the court. But even without Derrick Rose, the team’s effort was inexcusable, leading to a 102-86 Memphis win that really wasn’t that close. Among the truly bad from this game: The Grizzlies shot 69.2% from the field in the first... Read more »

Rose Out Against Memphis

Derrick Rose tested his sprained toe in warmups, but apparently it wasn’t feeling up to the task so he and the training staff decided that he would sit out today’s matinee in Memphis. That means John Lucas III gets his second start as a Bull- and while another 25/8/8 game would be awesome, hopefully it... Read more »

    Bullsville

Don Ellis started covering sports professionally when he was 15. The same year (1980), as a student assistant at Seeger Memorial High School in West Lebanon, IN, he was one of the first in the world to use, study and implement analytics in basketball. He attended Daytona State College and Ball State University, and some of his past credits include InsideHoops (NBA Runaround: The NBA According to Ellis) and ESPN Florida (The Florida Sports Reporters), where he was fortunate enough to work with many rising stars, including NFL Network's Dan Hellie, Redskins coach Jay Gruden, Magic radio and TV personality Dante Marchitelli, and WSB-TV (Atlanta) Sports Director Zach Klein. In addition to running the Bullsville blog and officiating basketball, baseball and football for the KHSAA, he is also a bass player and vocalist who writes and produces music in his spare time (you may remember his internet hit "I Hate Eddy Curry"). He's a 3rd-generation Cubs fan, a Bulls fan since the days of Van Lier and Sloan, and a life-long New England Patriots fan. He's seen Primus 9 times and thinks Les Claypool walks on water. By far his greatest accomplishment is being a father of three and grandfather of one.
