To Donny as you take office: Love, Barry

To Donny as you take office: Love, Barry

For centuries, the outgoing POTUS (president of the United States) writes a letter to the incoming POTUS. This time around is no different, President Barack Obama wrote a letter to President Donald Trump. I am not privy to that letter, so for fun, I'm writing one for them.

If I were President Obama, this is what I would say to President Trump:

To Donny as you take office,

Here is a list of people you should treat with respect during your presidency, even if you disagree with them:

  1. Women
  2. People with varied abilities
  3. People of races outside of caucasian
  4. People of the LGBTQ community
  5. Immigrants
  6. Underlings - this is not "The Apprentice"
  7. The Secret Service men and women protecting you - they're PROTECTING YOU

Here is a list of things you need to know are always on:

  1. Microphones
  2. Cameras
  3. The Cold War

Here is a list of allies and enemies:

  1. Be friends with Israel
  2. Be cautious friends with Russia
  3. Be careful of Canada - they may send everyone back!

Things to do and not do:

  1. Don't mock people
  2. Be kind
  3. Listen to your advisers
  4. Be careful who you choose as advisers

Overall, this is a decent gig; stressful, but decent. You get to live in a white house with a picket fence (sorta). You have a bowling alley, a swimming pool, a chef, housekeeping staff, and... oh, right... you already have that. Eh, enjoy it anyway on the American people's dime now.

Play golf, take vacations. It's all good. You will age faster in these 4 years than any other 4 years of your life, and you will be scrutinized more now than ever before. You will feel the weight of the world on your shoulders, because the weight of the world IS on  your shoulders.

And most importantly, the very best piece of advice I have for you is this:

For goodness sake, stay off of Twitter!

Love,

Barry O.

Like it, or not, love him or hate him, Donald Trump is our President, just like Barack Obama, The Bush's and Billy Boy were before him.

Pray for him and our country. Pray that we can find a place of unity, a place of peace and place of joy in which we can raise our children.

1 Timothy 2:1-3 The Message (MSG)

Simple Faith and Plain Truth

1-3 The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.
