Governor Pat Quinn is scheduled to present soul music legend Al Green with a proclamation today, declaring June 15th as “Al Green Day” in Illinois, according to a Ravinia Festival newsletter. Green, who is making his Ravinia debut tonight, will be joined by The Soul Children’s Choir of Chicago.
Quinn isn’t the only politico to pay homage to Green’s talent in recent memory. President Barack Obama greeted an Apollo Theater audience in New York with an ad-libbed snippet of one of Green’s iconic songs, “Let’s Stay Together.”
