Anita Hill in 2020

Anita Hill in 2020
A shero before the "Metoo era

Facebook is ablaze with people asking the question, should Oprah Winfrey run for president. The DNC is sending me emails asking who do I think should be on the ticket. It seems pretty clear that most anyone I know thinks Donald Trump should not be re-elected at the least and tried for treason and locked up at the best. I rather fall in the camp of LOCK HIM UP. I also am not firmly in the camp of let’s elect Oprah Winfrey. So, in response to the emails I am receiving about my thoughts I would like to offer a suggestion…..Anita Hill.

Why is she my choice? It’s a perfect response to the #Metoo. Not to mention that I think a Yale graduate attorney, university professor of social policy, law, and women's studies at Brandeis University and a faculty member of Brandeis' Heller School for Social Policy and Management could handle the job quite nicely. I also think she has paid her dues to sit in the Oval.

For those that don’t remember Ms. Anita Hill, in 1991 she was raked over the coals by mostly white men who didn’t seem to care a fig that she had endured harassment at the hand of Clarence Thomas. In spite of Thomas being seated in the Supreme Court for more than Al Franken was drummed out of his position, Ms. Hill stood firm. Her statement here sums up one of the many reasons I would cast a vote for her in 2020.  “I did what my conscience told me to do, and you can't fail if you do that.” This is a motto and a person for whom I would vote.

Oprah is successful. She came from #metoo and poverty to financial prominence. She contributes to society in many ways. I am not opposed to putting someone in the Oval who didn’t concentrate their career on getting to the White House. I’m not upset that a TV reality star is the president but the character of the reality star is definitely a problem. I don’t think Oprah would confront us with insanity at the worst and narcism as a minimum. I’m comforted by the thought that someone on the “Hill” is trying to put in place safeguards that prevent raving madmen from office and in fact severe personality disorders from governing our country.  I don’t think Oprah would be challenged by the proposed testing but I can’t wave a flag or hold a placard asking Oprah to run.

53% of white women voted for Trump, the pu##y grabber, for the most important office in the land. I don’t know they will turn out  for Oprah. They may not turn out for a woman at all. I do know that I would turn out for Anita. It’s time. For Clarence, payback is a black woman in the Oval who you harassed.
