Hero and Zero of the Week

Hero and Zero of the Week
by Fred Pearlman Andy Roddick, on why he could be a Tennis commentator after he quit playing: “There is not really much thought that goes into it.” From the other calendar, this from a Weather Channel forecaster, talking about a Hurricane:“Even if this hurricane drops back to a category 3, it’s still going to be... Kicking Off the Season with the 11 Greatest Pro Football Players I've Ever Seen (Since 1976)

1. Walter Payton
Tonight, the NFL begins the 2011 regular season with the Green Bay Packers hosting the New Orleans Saints at Lambeau Field. As these are the last two Super Bowl Champions, it should be a really good game. But unless I get home early enough to catch the end, I won’t be watching it. Although I’ve... Read more »

My 11 Favorite Pearl Jam Songs (in honor of their 20th Anniversary and Destination Weekend)

My 11 Favorite Pearl Jam Songs (in honor of their 20th Anniversary and Destination Weekend)
This Sunday I’m heading up to Alpine Valley in East Troy, Wisconsin for Pearl Jam Destination Weekend. Celebrating the band’s 20th anniversary, it’s a two-day festival of sorts–and Pearl Jam’s only U.S. dates this year–but the Saturday and Sunday lineups are the same. Thus I only got a ticket for Sunday, though I’ve enjoyed seeing... Read more »

Song Of The Day by Eric Berman - "I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore" by Dusty Springfield

Song Of The Day – “I Don’t Want To Hear It Anymore” by Dusty Springfield This record has a complete feel to it…the production values really make this Randy Newman-penned track come alive. And that voice…smoky…sultry…Dusty! Matching Dusty with the talents of Jerry Wexler, Tom Dowd and Arif Mardin, not to mention the Memphis mob,... Read more »

Freedom of Speech

Freedom of Speech
I saw this bumper sticker today.  I snapped a quick camera picture and posted it to my Facebook page. It got some surprisingly positive reaction. Quite a few “likes” and one “Love it!” What are your thoughts?

The 11 Most Essential Rock 'n' Roll Albums (with which to begin a collection)

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band | As obvious as this pick seems to me, it's a bit strange as although I consider Sgt. Pepper's to be the Beatles' best and most definitive album, I actually prefer early Beatles (1962-66) to their later output. A friend shrewdly pointed out that this album is probably the worst starting point to "what the Beatles sounded like." I see the point, but still make it my Beatles pick because it's just that awesome.
Let’s say you have a nephew–I actually have two and a niece, but the rest of this is imagined–and he comes to you one day and says that some of the other kids at school know a lot more about rock ‘n’ roll than he does. And not just the current stuff, whatever that may... Read more »

Song Of The Day by Eric Berman - "Run Run Run" by The Who

Song Of The Day – “Run Run Run” by The Who Back when Pete Townshend and company had credibility. Their “A Quick One” album is still killer 45 years later and when played today it still sounds fresh. It’s a shame about Keith and The Ox…it’s more a shame for what they left behind with... Read more »

Playing Disc Jockey and Music Director

Playing Disc Jockey and Music Director
When you get to pick your own music on the radio, it changes the listening landscape.  So many stations on the air today are preprogrammed or the jocks have a limited library to chose from. I went on the air with Marty Z. from Zecom Radio on his The Choice station for a few hours... Read more »

Song Of The Day by Eric Berman - "Me And My Arrow" by Harry Nilsson

Song Of the Day – “Me And My Arrow” by Harry Nilsson From the 1971 animated TV special “The Point.” The main character was Oblio whose head was round while everyone else had pointed heads. Arrow was his dog. While Ringo Starr supplied the voice of the narrator on the home video, it was Dustin... Read more »
