This ran last year. If it were to be republished, we could probably add Steve McGarrett (the 2.0 version) to this list. Girls love him, and guys want to be him. Australian Alex O' Laughlin has brought back the cool TV cop.
Entertainment Weekly Magazine just came out with it's list of the 100 greatest characters of the last twenty years. No doubt there are some memorable TV, film, and book characters during that span. Homer Simpson topped the list which also included Harry Potter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and John Locke from lost.
I decided to compile a list of my top five coolest guys from the same era. The criteria is Every one of these are on EW list, but I have rearranged the order.
#1 Jack Bauer - [# 44 on EW's] but tops on my list. No nonsense former CTU agent Bauer is a tough talking guy who also walks the walk.
#2 Jack Sparrow [#13] Fights the good fight, and is super charming with the ladies. The go-to guy when you are in a major jam.
#3 Austin Powers [#23] "Shall we shag now, or shag later?" and "Oh, behave!" were some of the most memorable quotes of the past two decades. Every girl and every guy wants to party with super spy Powers.
Jeff Bridges in the Big Lebowski
#4 Jeffery Lebowski [#14] aka as "the Dude." Call him that or, uh, His
Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole
brevity thing. No worries. Not ever. That rug really tied the room together. I knew the character had "arrived" when I saw the Dude's likeness on a t-shirt as mock up of the Obama "Hope" poster.
#5 Tony Sporano - [#4] The ultimate bad ass. Successful Jersey mob boss. His specialty is revenge. He would have finished higher on the list, but he's got a lot of "issues."
Honorary Mention - Kara "Starbuck" Thrace [#72] her character in the old Battlestar Galactica was male. Still, she can kick your butt, out run you, drink you under the table, and you'd still want to sleep with her.
