Monday Morning QB - Emmy's and Ann Arbor road trip

Monday Morning QB - Emmy's and Ann Arbor road trip

These should really be two different articles, but hell, it's Monday. There's lots to do.

First off, my comments on Sunday night's Emmy awards on Fox.  Jane Lynch did a good, but not memorable job as host.  It seems all a host does these days, is a humorous show opener, tell a few jokes, and have several costume changes.

"Modern Family" and "Mad Men" were the big winners.  Both are shows I watch.  A couple of shows from HBO and PBS won in the who cares category of drama or miniseries.  It was nice to see one of my favorite hot, hot, hot actresses, Kate Winslet win for "Mildred Pierce."  Who the hell is Mildred Pierce?  Is she related to Franklin Pierce, former US President, or Hawkeye Pierce from "MASH?"

Amy Poehler had all the nominees for Best Comedy Actress go onstage as if it were a beauty pageant. When Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) won for "Mike and Molly," a tiara and a bouquet were at the ready.  Nice touch, very funny.

Jim Parson wins Best Comedy actor for his role as Sheldon Cooper in "Big Bang Theory."  Two actors who should have been in the mix, but were overlooked were John Noble for his work as Walter Bishop on "Fringe," and Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen in "Burn Notice.

The show noted the passings of many tv stars over the past year including James MacArthur, Tom Bosley, James Arness, Peter Falk, and Sherwood Schwartz (creator of "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch.")  May the Schwartz be with you!

Get the complete list, plus lots of coverage from my Hollywood go-to source, The Hollywood Reporter.

Hmm.....upon further consideration, it should be two articles.  Look for the Ann Arbor story on Wednesday.  Tomorrow is a review of the "Hawaii Five-O" season opener in this week's Paradise Found.

  • Who the hell is Mildred Pierce???? Mildred Pierce is one of the greatest movies of all time, and I'm astonished a movie-phile like yourself hasn't seen it. We will remedy this by loaning you the DVD next time I see you. It was remade on HBO starring Winslet who did a nice job but was no match for the original Mildred, Joan Crawford. The HBO version stuck mutch closer to the oringinal book.
