Watched this ABC interview Sunday night with Diane Sawyer, in which the California woman makes the first public discussion of her 18-year ordeal at the hands of a convicted rapist and serial pedophile.
It was a ratings smash for Mickey Mouse's network. As reported by THR, " ABC won Sunday night in the key 18-49 demo with a 2.5 rating thanks to Diane Sawyer's first interview with kidnapping victim Jaycee Dugard. The Primetime special, which aired from 9 to 11 p.m. ET, rated a 3.7 in the demo and attracted 14.8 million viewers. The special was TV’s most-watched summer newsmagazine telecast in seven years."
In addition to the first person account of Dugard, who was kidnapped at age eleven on her way to school from her Lake Tahoe home, reporter Chris Cuomo details the continued failings of the Cailornia penal system and the parole board. The lax efforts of parole officers to do their jobs properly might have enabled them to discover the forced imprisonment sooner.
A very moving interview and a stunning report that were certainly worth watching.
